Item Open Access Using graphic novels at language : Turkish A lessons in International Baccalaureate Diplomma Program : the sample of puslu kıtalar atlası(2017-01) Ökmen, Gizem SevinçThe aim of this study was to conduct research that focuses on using graphic novels in the context of International Baccalaureate Diplomma Programme (IBDP) Language: Turkish A classes. For this purpose, the graphic novel named Puslu Kıtalar Atlası, written by Ġlban Ertem, was examined in the context of graphic novel components. A descriptive analysis was made to determine how these components were functional to teach literary devices. As a result, the study showed it is possible to examine the literary devices such as time, space, plot, theme, conflict, foreshadowing, intertextuality, flashback, point of view and narrator by analyzing the graphic novel components; gutters, panels and balloons. The study concluded that graphic novels are beneficial literary genres for improving students’ visual literacy skills.
