Item Open Access Design in interior architecture/design and “the real life”(Texas A & M - Commerce, 2016) Özdamar, M.The Interior Architecture/Design is a process of dreaming and thinking. It is one of the most heart warming, and on the other hand, most uplifting of professions; “we have lots of things in our minds”, and having them on the drawing paper or on screen with the computer environment, which is the way to share it with colleagues and the relevant people around. However, according to me, the profession comes alive when the imagination turns to reality, so, that is why it is called as “the real life”. The active processes and the real cases of the profession should be shared with the students and they should immediately have the ability and knowledge about drawing those decisions and/or modifications, by free-hand during the presentations or during the production periods. By having the questionnaires and surveys with the interior architects/designers, business executives and customers the main question “Is the interior architects/designers feel equal to the task during the realization and production period?” is asked. With the help of the question and questionnaire(s), it will be a chance to discuss about the things those should be looked after and maintain some basic things with the technological changes/innovations. By this way, arranging the courses and/or procedures within the courses according to the daily conditions and requirements within “the real life” is discussed.Item Open Access A domain specific software model for interior architectural education and practice(Elsevier BV, 2012) Şenyapılı, B.; Bozdağ, B. G.Interior architectural education and practice employ various general-purpose software packages. This study problematizes that as none of these packages is developed specifically for interior architectural design process and purposes, both interior architecture education and market seek ways to fulfill their specific needs. It is argued that currently interior architecture does not fully benefit from digital opportunities. A specific software package for interior architecture will enable the discipline to put forth its assets and manifest its existence. Consequently, this study proposes a domain specific model for interior architectural software. Initially, general-purpose and domain specific computer aided architectural design (CAAD) software used in interior architecture are determined. Then, selected software packages are analyzed according to Szalapaj's [1] set of features: 'drawing', 'transformation', 'view', 'rendering' and 'other'. Based on these analyses, domain specific requirements for interior architecture are obtained. Consequently, questionnaires and interviews are performed with interior architectural students and professionals in order to determine the user needs. Finally, based on the findings, a software model for interior architecture is proposed.Item Open Access Rehearsal of professional practice: impacts of web-based collaborative learning on the future encounter of different disciplines(Springer, 2008) Karakaya, A. F.; Şenyapılı, B.This study argues that the shift towards a more multidisciplinary professional life in contemporary design practice requires design curricula to equip students with collaborative skills. The study offers that by the aid of web-based collaborative learning (WBCL) in design education, different disciplines may be brought together during their education. A case study is held as a rehearsal of professional life; involving architecture and interior architecture students collaborating on a common project, using WBCL. The evaluations of the participating students about the process were analyzed. The findings convey that there is a mutual problem of recognition of professional domains. In order to diagnose and possibly reconcile tensions that may occur due to this problem in professional life, this paper asserts that integrating interdisciplinary work to the design curricula would be beneficial.
