Contributions of impurity band and electron-electron interactions to magnetoconductance in AlGaN
    (Taylor & Francis, 2010-06-30) Tasli, P.; Yildiz, A.; Kasap, M.; Özbay, Ekmel; Lisesivdin, S. B.; Ozcelik, S.
Low temperature electrical measurements of conductivity, the Hall effect and magnetoconductance were performed on a degenerate AlGaN sample. The sample exhibited negative magnetoconductance at low magnetic fields and low temperatures, with the magnitude being systematically dependent on temperature. The measured magnetoconductance was compared with models proposed previously by Sondheimer and Wilson [Proc. R. Soc. Lond. Ser. A 190 (1947) p. 435] and Lee and Ramakrishan [Rev. Mod. Phys. 57 (1985) p. 287]. Data were analyzed as the sum of the contribution of a two-band and electron-electron interactions to the magnetoconductance, applying these models to describe the observed behavior. Least-squares fits to the data are presented. In the sample, magnetoconductance can be explained reasonably well by assuming these contributions to the measured magnetoconductance. It was found that theoretical and experimental data were in excellent agreement.

Effective electron-electron interactions and magnetic phase transition in a two-dimensional electron liquid
    (Elsevier B.V., 2007) Asgari, R.; Esmailian, A.; Tanatar, Bilal
We investigate the spin-dependent effective electron-electron interactions in a uniform system of two-dimensional electrons to understand the spontaneous magnetization expected to occur at very low density. For this purpose, we adopt the Kukkonen-Overhauser form for the effective interactions which are built by accurately determined local-field factors describing the charge and spin fluctuations. The critical behavior of the effective interaction for parallel spin electrons allows us to quantitatively locate the transition to the ferromagnetic state at rs ≈ 27. When the finite width effects are approximately taken into account the transition occurs at rs ≈ 30 in agreement with recent quantum Monte Carlo calculations.

The self-consistent calculation of the edge states at quantum Hall effect (QHE) based Mach-Zehnder interferometers (MZI)
    (Elsevier B.V., 2008) Siddiki, A.; Kavruk, A. E.; Öztürk, T.; Atav, U.; Şahin, M.; Hakioǧlu T.
The spatial distribution of the incompressible edge states (IES) is obtained for a geometry which is topologically equivalent to an electronic Mach-Zehnder interferometer, taking into account the electron-electron interactions within a Hartree type self-consistent model. The magnetic field dependence of these IES is investigated and it is found that an interference pattern may be observed if two IES merge or come very close, near the quantum point contacts. Our calculations demonstrate that, being in a quantized Hall plateau does not guarantee observing the interference behavior.
