Item Open Access 2-nm laser-synthesized Si nanoparticles for low-power charge trapping memory devices(IEEE, 2014-08) El-Atab, N.; Özcan, Ayşe; Alkış, Sabri; Okyay, Ali Kemal; Nayfeh, A.In this work, the effect of embedding Silicon Nanoparticles (Si-NPs) in ZnO based charge trapping memory devices is studied. Si-NPs are fabricated by laser ablation of a silicon wafer in deionized water followed by sonication and filtration. The active layer of the memory was deposited by Atomic Layer Deposition (ALD) and spin coating technique was used to deliver the Si-NPs across the sample. The nanoparticles provided a good retention of charges (>10 years) in the memory cells and allowed for a large threshold voltage (Vt) shift (3.4 V) at reduced programming voltages (1 V). The addition of ZnO to the charge trapping media enhanced the electric field across the tunnel oxide and allowed for larger memory window at lower operating voltages. © 2014 IEEE.Item Open Access Nonlinear laser lithography to control surface properties of stainless steel(Elsevier BV, 2015) Orazi, L.; Gnilitskyi, I.; Pavlov, I.; Serro, A. P.; Ilday, S.; Ilday, F. O.In the present work a novel method to improve the surface properties of stainless steel is presented and discussed. The method, based on the use of a high repetition rate femtosecond Yb fibre laser, permits generation of highly reproducible, robust, uniform and periodic nanoscale structures over a large surface area. The technique is characterized by high productivity, which, in its most simple form, does not require special environmental conditioning. Surface morphology is scrutinized through SEM and AFM analyses and wettability behaviour is investigated by means of the sessile drop method using distilled-deionized water. It is shown that optimization of process parameters promotes anisotropic wetting behaviour of the material surface.Item Open Access Thin film MoS2 nanocrystal based ultraviolet photodetector(Optical Society of American (OSA), 2012) Alkis, S.; Öztaş, T.; Aygün L.E.; Bozkurt F.; Okyay, Ali Kemal; Ortaç, B.We report on the development of UV range photodetector based on molybdenum disulfide nanocrystals (MoS2-NCs). The inorganic MoS2- NCs are produced by pulsed laser ablation technique in deionized water and the colloidal MoS2-NCs are characterized by transmission electron microscopy, Raman spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction and UV/VIS absorption measurements. The photoresponse studies indicate that the fabricated MoS 2- NCs photodetector (MoS2-NCs PD) operates well within 300-400 nm UV range, with diminishing response at visible wavelengths, due to the MoS2- NCs absorption characteristics. The structural and the optical properties of laser generated MoS2-NCs suggest promising applications in the field of photonics and optoelectronics. © 2012 Optical Society of America.
