Item Open Access Integrated lot sizing and tool management in automated manufacturing systems(IIE, 1997) Aktürk, Mehmet Selim; Önen, SiraceddinWe propose a new algorithm to solve lot sizing, tool allocation and machining conditions optimization problems simultaneously to minimize total production cost in a CNC environment. Most of the existing lot sizing and tool management methods solve these problems independently using a two-level optimization approach. Thus, we not only improve the overall solution by exploiting the interactions, but also prevent any infeasibility that might occur for the tool management problem due to decisions made at the lot sizing level. We showed that in a set of randomly generated problems 22.5% of solutions found by the two-level approach were infeasible and we improved the solution on the average by 6.79% for the remaining cases with an average computation time of 63.4 seconds.Item Open Access NS-SRAM: neighborhood solidarity SRAM for reliability enhancement of SRAM memories(IEEE, 2016-08-09) Alouani, I.; Ahangari, Hamzeh; Öztürk, Özcan; Niar, S.Technology shift and voltage scaling increased the susceptibility of Static Random Access Memories (SRAMs) to errors dramatically. In this paper, we present NS-SRAM, for Neighborhood Solidarity SRAM, a new technique to enhance error resilience of SRAMs by exploiting the adjacent memory bit data. Bit cells of a memory line are paired together in circuit level to mutually increase the static noise margin and critical charge of a cell. Unlike existing techniques, NS-SRAM aims to enhance both Bit Error Rate (BER) and Soft Error rate (SER) at the same time. Due to auto-adaptive joiners, each of the adjacent cells' nodes is connected to its counterpart in the neighbor bit. NS-SRAM enhances read-stability by increasing critical Read Static Noise Margin (RSNM), thereby decreasing faults when circuit operates under voltage scaling. It also increases hold-stability and critical charge to mitigate soft-errors. By the proposed technique, reliability of SRAM based structures such as cache memories and register files can drastically be improved with comparable area overhead to existing hardening techniques. Moreover it does not require any extra-memory, does not impact the memory effective size, and has no negative impact on performance. © 2016 IEEE.Item Open Access PocketDrive: A system for mobile control of desktop PC and its applications using PDAs(IEEE, 2007-11) Yıldırım, Yenel; Körpeoğlu, İbrahimToday, consumer electronic devices and PCs are inevitable parts of our daily life. Controlling those devices remotely is an important aspect of the technology. We have already universal remote control devices for controlling consumer electronic devices. Similarly, we may control our desktop and laptop PCs and their applications remotely via portable and smaller computers like PDAs and Pocket PCs. This paper presents a system and its architecture that enable a wireless-enabled PDA to control a PC and its applications remotely over a 802.11 or Bluetooth link. With such a system running on a PDA, a user can start, run and control PC applications from any location that is reachable via 802.11 link. S.two-phase approach is developed to solve the tool magazine arrangement and operations sequencing problems. The overall aim is to minimize the total manufacturing cost by utilizing the benefits of tool sharing concept and loading duplicate tools due to a possible decrease in tooling and tool operating costs while maintaining the feasibility in terms of precedence, tool magazine capacity, tool life covering and tool availability constraints due to tool contention among the operations for a limited number of tool types, because the absence of such crucial constraints may lead to infeasible results. Furthermore, the proposed approach can provide an effective decision making tool for the short term operational decisions of FMS. Copyright © 1996 Elsevier Science Ltd
