Collaborative digital environments to enhance the creativity of designers
    (Elsevier, 2015-01) Karakaya, A. F.; Demirkan H.
This study explores the interaction of the essential components of creativity and collaboration in a digital environment in the design process. The framework is based on Amabile’s componential theory of creativity, which is composed of three intra-individual components of creativity and the social environment. The digital environment as the social component of creativity provides the technical infrastructure for the analysis of data related to creativity and collaboration. Protocol coding method is used for the analysis of the qualitative and quantitative data stored in The Modular Object Oriented Developmental Learning Environment (MOODLE) forum posts that were formed by the comments or critiques given during the collaboration process by the team members, instructors or jury members. Findings indicate that the social environment component named as the reactivity to proposals is closely related to idea generation as the creative relevant process component and group interaction as the task motivation component. Furthermore, it is found that the number of sketches and design ideas produced through critiques are the main design issues that enhance creativity in collaborative digital environments.

Collaborative environments to enhance creativity of design students : use of collaborative creativity support tools
    (2011) Karakaya, Ahmet Fatih
Collaboration and creativity are integral parts of design education process. Tools to support collaborative design process, as well as tools to support creativity in the process now being used together in design education. Therefore in this study, the Collaborative Creativity Support Tool (CCST) is proposed and applied to the design process that is conducted both synchronously and asynchronously. CCST is composed of design students, knowledge domain and design field. MOODLE learning environment is utilized for collaboration and enhancing creativity processes in knowledge domain, and Google SketchUp 3D modeling tool is used in the design field. Data collection is composed of observations during and after the study, surveys, correspondence logs, 3D models, interviews and statistics that were obtained by MOODLE forum logs. To evaluate effectiveness of CCST, segment analysis over demographic data, communication frequencies, communication codes, indicators of creativity, analysis of creativity in design education is used. Findings of the empirical research indicate that CCST supported design students in both collaborative and creative processes.

Development of interorganizational domain in Turkish concrete prefabrication industry
    (1995) Topkaya, Şeref
Collaboration is a viable and necessary approach to confronting many complex problems faced by the societies. Efficient response to problems such as declining industries or environmental issues which affect multiple sectors of society require analysis at the domain level. Search conferences and referent organizations are instruments for the inter-organizational domain development. In this study, domain development efforts and change process in the Turkish Concrete Préfabrication Industry after a search conference is analyzed,

Dynamics of commitment and contribution quality in collaborative communities
(IEEE, 2007-11) Schaal, Markus; Eren, Y.
It is well-known that commitment is an important ingredient for contributions of high quality. With the internet heading towards being an actionable social space, rather than a collection of web-sites, the issue of quality becomes crucial for sharing knowledge and action in collaborative scenarios. We propose a case study for the investigation of the influence of time, user feedback and interface complexity on contribution quality. We plan to exploit different online user groups across two different temporal phases for the evaluation.

EFL teachers’ engagement in reflective practice via team teaching for professional development
    (2017-05) Özsoy, Kadir
This study aimed to investigate Turkish EFL teachers’ engagement in reflective practices that were identified as reflection-on-action, reflection-in-action, and reflection-for-action via their team teaching experiences for professional development purposes. In this respect, the study explored the experiences of five local English teachers who volunteered to team teach as a professional development activity in the course of four months at their institutions. The data were collected via two different instruments: reflective journals and interviews. All the qualitative data collected from reflective journals and interview transcriptions were analysed according to Boyatzis’ (1998) thematic analysis. After the printed copies were examined to define the codes and then colour-code the themes that emerged, the NVivo software programme was utilised to reread and recategorise the codes and themes, which were finally listed under the concepts of reflection-on, in, and foraction reflective types. The findings of the study revealed that through team teaching participants engaged in a) reflection-on-action by investigating their teacher identities and the dynamics of their teaching; b) reflection-in-action by exploring teaching practices, beliefs, and self; and c) reflection-for-action by probing ways to move towards a professional growth. Considering these results, this study supports the existing literature in that a) providing a collaborative and shared teaching experience adds a meaningful and productive dimension to reflective practice that ultimately entails a critical analysis of understandings and practices in teaching; and b) team teaching could serve its purpose best when it is undertaken as a voluntary, flexible, and periodical reflective professional development activity.

European collaboration in conformal antenna research
    (IEEE, 2007-09) Sipus, Z.; Persson P.; Lanne, M.; Heckler, M.; Maci, S.; Campos, J. L. M.; Knott, P.; Ertürk, Vakur; Vandenbosch, G.
The work carried out within Work Package 2.4-3 of the EU network "Antenna Centre of Excellence" (ACE) is presented in this paper. This work package is concerned with structuring research on conformal antennas. In more details, the work is focused on the problems associated with full benchmarking of conformal antennas, on development of hybrid programs for analyzing different classes of conformal antennas, and on investigation of properties of algorithms for optimizing beam synthesis and beam-steering for conformal arrays.

Involving the elderly in the design process
    (Taylor & Francis, 1998) Demirbilek (Saritabak), O.; Demirkan, H.
Based on the concept of'aging in place', a prescriptive model is proposed, aiming at the creation of a usable, safe and attractive built environment where the elderly residents are actively involved in the design process through collaboration sessions. Quality Function Deployment (QFD) has been adapted to develop an evaluation and translation method for the collected data of the elderly end-users.

Keeping the pace in CS-1 through the use of CMS
    (ACM, 2009) Kültür, Can
In this poster, it is aimed to share the experience of using course management systems (CMS) in a CS-1 course. The aim was to focus on the individual needs of students while learning programming. Creating a social online environment for solving exercises and sharing solutions seemed to be effective to support instructors as well as students.

On a multiple item replenishment problem in the presence of carbon emissions
    (2022-09) Şenyuva, Ilgın Efe
Motivated by the increasing popularity of sustainability issues, and the opportunities to create positive value through collaboration, the purpose of the study is to investigate a joint replenishment model in the presence of carbon emissions. The joint replenishment problem here is one where there is a deterministic demand rate over an infinite time horizon where there are major fixed, minor fixed, holding, and per unit costs and emissions. Since extensive research has been done on carbon caps and carbon tax, in order to differentiate the thesis from the existing work, a novel objective function is implemented. Through this, the optimality of the objective function has been investigated and the obtained results prove the concavity of the objective function for the common order interval and joint concavity for the item-specific order intervals. Relationships between the parameters of the variables are obtained to decrease the computational complexity. Lastly, basic numerical analysis is conducted to compare the performance of the objective function to traditional objective functions.
