Item Open Access Enver Pasha and the political currents in the late Ottoman period(2000) Özmen, Ayşe GülruThis thesis analyzes the dominant political currents in the Ottoman Empire at the turn of the twentieth century- namely Pan- Turkism, PanIslamism, Ottomanism- and aims to figure out which of these currents that Enver Pasha mostly emphasized. Within this context, the emergence of the Pan- movements, competing ideologies in the late Ottoman period, the role of Enver Pasha within the CUP and his activities and statements which can be incorporated with these ideologies will be discussed. The thesis also trace the different arguments made by historians regarding the political preferences of Enver Pasha. It will seek to answer questions such as, which of these ideologies Enver Pasha used interchangebly, what were the external and internal circumstances that influenced his position and why there are many divergent arguments about his political preferences.Item Restricted On the path to a Turkish national economy: the expulsion of Greeks from the Aegean villages(Bilkent University, 2020) Sajjad, Roha; Abdeen, Abdullah; Bin Roslan, Muhammad Firdaus; Hanyyev, Suleyman; Ballyyev, MuhammetThis research paper is based on the events that took place in 1914 in the Aegean town named Phocaea where the Greek Orthodox subjects faced first a commercial boycott, then plundering and murder. This paper gives an idea about the 1914 incidents within its wider context. In this paper, we sought to describe the tragedy in detail and to explain the motives and reasons behind it with the help of contemporary sources. This study endeavored to understand the involvement of the Ottoman government and CUP ideologies such as the creation of a national economy, and its relation with the Balkan Wars. The 1914 tragedy was described in detail. The aftermath of all the events and the condition of the Ottoman Empire was explained later, including reactions of other countries.
