Archaeology was then used to create a Turkish identity that could combat the notion that Turks were a secondary race. Atatürk took the initiative to enhance Turkey’s archaeological field through the establishment of the Turkish Historical Society and by carrying out excavations. Atatürk’s approach and attitude towards archaeology differed significantly from that of the Ottoman’s. Furthermore, the archaeology’s effects were not limited to Turkey but had an impact on other countries as well.Item Open Access Theoretical approaches in Turkish archaeology(2007) Ahibay, BanuThis thesis analyzes several theoretical approaches in Turkish archaeology throughout its history.
