G.; Povino, A.; Tekin, A.[No abstract available]Item Open Access EU–Russian relations and Turkey's role as an energy corridor(Routledge, 2009) Tekin, A.; Williams, P. A.This article analyses the impact of EU–Russian relations on Turkey's role as a corridor for the transit of energy supplies to Europe. While the European Union (EU) has inherent leverage in its collective purchase of most Russian gas exports, market power has shifted in Russia's favour. Russian efforts to build new pipelines and widen downstream access have stimulated EU interest in diversifying energy imports and transit routes. In this sense, the EU has recognised Turkey's potential value as a secure and independent route for importing non-Russian energy supplies, which may in turn have an impact on Turkey's EU accession process.Item Open Access Future of Turkey-EU relations: a civilisational discourse(Pergamon Press, 2005) Tekin, A.Should or can Turkey join the European Union (EU)? This paper argues that there are three alternative scenarios of the EU decision to grant membership to Turkey: 'privileged relationship offer,' 'wait and see attitude,' and 'start of full membership negotiations.' It then gauges each alternative path, and argues that the most likely scenario is a decision to start the negotiations, followed by the scenario of 'wait and see.' The EU decision will be conditioned by its future vision of global governance and the role foreseen for Turkey inside, outside or at the margin of it. The paper concludes that the EU decision will have significant implications for the future of relations between Europe and Turkey on the one hand, and Europe and the Islamic world on the other.Item Open Access The Iraq war, Turkey, and renewed caspian energy prospects(Middle East Institute, 2008) Williams, P. A.; Tekin, A.Many have linked the US-led invasion of Iraq to its oil resources, leading some observers to question Caspian energy prospects. This article analyzes how the Iraqi occupation and Caspian oil prospects have been inter-linked, via the evolution of American and Turkish assessments of Iraq and the Caspian region. It shows that, contrary to initial expectations, the occupation of Iraq bolstered the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan project as well as a number of other increasingly significant natural gas export pipelines.Item Open Access La costruzione di un ethos Europeo condiviso: alcuni spunti habermasiani(Tipolito Subalpina, 2009) Gonzalez, E.; Gözen, M. Adsorption studies show that the use of hmt and dca moieties as building blocks for solid adsorbents can enhance the CO2:surface interactions due to N atoms available inside the pores, which is confirmed by X-ray single crystal studies.Item Open Access Item Open Access Turkey and EU energy security: the pipeline connection(Department of Political Science, CEU, 2009) Tekin, A.; Williams, P.
