Item Restricted The media's role in the decline of Devrim motors(Bilkent University, 2020) Ashyralyyev, Akmuhammet; Ijaz, Hasaan; Rehman, Mohammad Usayrim; Mulkana, Muhammad Abdullah Shafat; Zeeshan, RafayIn this research paper, we investigate the relationship between the fall of Devrim Motors and media's portrayal of it. Devrim Project was an initiative taken by President Gursel of Turkey in 1962 to pave way for Turkey's technological independence and economic prosperity. After 4 months of hasty labor by 24 engineers, 2 prototypes out of 4 - built only from materials available in Turkey - were revealed to the public on the Republic Day where one car broke down. Major media outlets, thereafter, reported the project in mixed opinions, surrounding the project in controversy. By scrutinizing these articles, our paper shows that media's portrayal coupled with the time-place setting are the main entities responsible for the fall of Devrim Project.
