Item Restricted The treaty of Lausanne and its significance(Bilkent University, 2020) Puka, Beana; Lim, Hyunwoong; Lim, Jiwoong; Kurmangazy, Saule; Jeong, YewonThe treaty of Lausanne is an important treaty that had finished the hostilities between the Ottoman Empire and the Allies, determining the borders of the modern Turkish Republic. By analyzing İsmet İnönü’s intensive negotiations on the treaty while Atatürk was doing successful battles in the Turkish lands, this paper aims to emphasize the importance of the treaty in the fate of the Turkish population’s history. Moreover, after the treaty was signed, by highlighting the celebrations done in Turkey on the Lausanne Day and especially the organizations in Halkevleri (People’s houses), this paper points out how Turkish population valued the treaty and considered it significant for their country’s history.
