Item Open Access International acquisitions: Retention of a target firm's key top personnel for social capital(InderScience Publishers, 2011) Kiessling, Timothy; Şimşek, B.One of the most utilised strategic tactics by many organisations is to focus on international acquisitions in foreign markets to compete effectively in the current ever-changing dynamic competitive landscape. We suggest that the key top personnel of a previously successful target international firm is a valuable resource and needs to be retained for the local firm's continued success due to their social capital which was developed over time. This research focuses on the key top personnel (typically members of the top management team) and their value to the firm to help explain the variation in acquisition success. Thus, we argue that the key top personnel (KTP) need to be retained due to the value of their social capital.Item Open Access Ostracism in the workplace: ‘being voted off the island’(Elsevier, 2019) Harvey, M.; Moeller, M.; Kiessling, Timothy; Dabic, M.As humans, we seem to be fascinated by ostracism. Ostracism has been popularized by the entertainment industry as we watch numerous reality shows where in each episode someone is “voted off the island” or “voted out of the house” by peers and strangers alike. People are generally “voted off” because: they are a weak link in team effectiveness, they are disliked because of the way they interact with others of how they engage with the game, they are a threat to win the game (and therefore cause me to not win), or they are not part of a powerful in-group and therefore are categorized as different from others in the collective group setting. The ostracized individual is subsequently deemed not worthy of being a member of a group and is frequently socially ignored by others in the group or organization. These dynamics of ostracism are virtually no different in the workplace.
