Item Open Access Calculation of temperature distribution and thermo-optical effects in double-end-pumped slab laser(2011) Elahi P.; Morshedi, S.The temperature distribution and thermo-optical effects in a double-end-pumped slab laser are investigated analytically. The theoretical model is given by considering heat generation on both sides of an active medium due to pumping. With account for the pump beam divergence and the heat load, the heat conduction equation is solved, and the temperature distribution and thermal effects, such as thermal lensing and thermal stress, are obtained. The results are applied to a typical Nd:YVO 4 laser crystal slab and discussed. ©2011 Springer Science+Business Media, Inc.Item Open Access Intracavity optical trapping with ytterbium doped fiber(SPIE, 2013) Laser, R.; Sayed, R.; Kalantarifard, Fatemeh; Elahi P.; İlday, F. Ömer; Volpe, Giovanni; Marago O.M.We propose a novel approach for trapping micron-sized particles and living cells based on optical feedback. This approach can be implemented at low numerical aperture (NA=0.5, 20X) and long working distance. In this configuration, an optical tweezers is constructed inside a ring cavity fiber laser and the optical feedback in the ring cavity is controlled by the light scattered from a trapped particle. In particular, once the particle is trapped, the laser operation, optical feedback and intracavity power are affected by the particle motion. We demonstrate that using this configuration is possible to stably hold micron-sized particles and single living cells in the focal spot of the laser beam. The calibration of the optical forces is achieved by tracking the Brownian motion of a trapped particle or cell and analysing its position distribution. © 2013 SPIE.Item Open Access Laser oscillator with nonlinear saturable absorber: A pump to signal noise transfer function model(Optical Society of America, 2011) Elahi P.; Budunoğlu, I. Levent; Gürel, Kutan; İlday, F. ÖmerWe report a model to describe the characterization of pump noise transfer in an laser oscillator consist of nonlinear saturable absorber. At the first, we obtained a linear superposition relation for modulation transfer function of amplifier part. By using the nonlinear characteristics of saturable absorber, a nonlinear quadratic equation for MTF of laser oscillator obtained The theory then validate with experiment and good consistency observed. © 2011 Optical Society of America.
