Item Open Access Dynamic critical index of the Swendsen-Wang algorithm by dynamic finite-size scaling(Elsevier B.V., 2006-10-15) Dilaver, M.; Gündüç, S.; Aydin, M.; Gündüç, Y.In this work we have considered the dynamic scaling relation of the magnetization in order to study the dynamic scaling behavior of 2- and 3-dimensional Ising models. We have used the literature values of the magnetic critical exponents to observe the dynamic finite-size scaling behavior of the time evolution of the magnetization during early stages of the Monte Carlo simulation. In this way we have calculated the dynamic critical exponent Z for 2- and 3-dimensional Ising Models by using the Swendsen-Wang cluster algorithm. We have also presented that this method opens the possibility of calculating z and x(0) separately. Our results show good agreement with the literature values. Measurements done on lattices with different sizes seem to give very good scaling.Item Open Access A Monte Carlo study of the BNNNI model(IOP Publishing, 1989) Aydin, M.; Yalabik, M. C.The biaxially next-nearest-neighbour Ising (BNNNI) model is studied using the Monte Carlo procedure. The structure factor is used to identify the possible phases of the system. At intermediate temperatures, evidence for the presence of an additional incommensurate phase with a varying wavevector between the disordered and antiphase states is given. © 1989 IOP Publishing Ltd.Item Open Access Polymer/clay nanocomposites through multiple hydrogen-bonding interactions(John Wiley and Sons Inc., 2015) Aydin, M.; Uyar, Tamer; Tasdelen, M. A.; Yagci Y.An 2-ureido-4[1H]pyrimidinone (UPy) motif with self-association capability (through quadruple hydrogen bonds) was successfully anchored onto montmorillonite clay layers. Polymer/clay nanocomposites were prepared by specific hydrogen bonding interactions between surface functionalized silica nanoclays and UPy-bonded supramolecular poly(ethylene glycol) or poly(É-caprolactone). The mixed morphologies including intercalated layers with a non-uniform separation and exfoliated single layers isolated from any stack were determined by combined X-ray diffraction and transmission electron microscopic measurements. Thermal analyses showed that all nanocomposites had higher decomposition temperatures and thermal stabilities compared with neat polymer. The differential scanning calorimetric data implied that the crystallinity of polymers did not show essential changes upon introduction of organomodified UPy clays.Item Open Access Polystyrene / clay nanocomposites by atom transfer radical nitroxide coupling chemistry(Wiley, 2013) Aydin, M.; Tasdelen, M. A.; Uyar, Tamer; Jockusch, S.; Turro, N. J.; Yagci, Y.An efficient protocol, atom transfer radical nitroxide coupling chemistry, for the preparation of polymer/clay nanocomposites via grafting-onto strategy with well-defined polymer, which were synthesized via atom transfer radical polymerization, has been described. The radical coupling, taking place between the clay layers, not only leads to attached polymer chains but also to successful nanocomposite formation with highly exfoliated morphology. C.The phase diagram of the two-dimensional biaxially next-nearest-neighbour king (BNNNI) model is obtained using the real-space renormalisation group method with the mean-field approximation. The transitions between disordered and commensurate phases are observed to be single transitions for the ferromagnetic phase at intermediate and high temperatures and for the antiphase structure at high temperatures. However, within the approximation, successive transitions are observed between the antiphase structure and disordered phase at intermediate and low temperatures.
