dc.descriptionThe History of Turkey course (HIST200) is a requirement for all Bilkent undergraduates. It is designed to encourage students to work in groups on projects concerning any topic of their choice that relates to the history of Turkey. It is designed as an interactive course with an emphasis on research and the objective of investigating events, chronologically short historical periods, as well as historic representations. Students from all departments prepare and present final projects for examination by a committee, with 10 projects chosen to receive awards.en_US

dc.description.abstract2. Dünya Savaşı yalnızca savaşa giren ülkelerin tedbirler almasını gerektirmiyordu. Savaşa fiilen girmemiş ülkeler de pek çok önlem almıştı. Türkiye, savunma politikasını izleyen ülkeler arasındaydı. Türkiye' nin aldığı önlemler askeri ve sivil olarak ikiye ayrılmıştı. Bunun yanı sıra, ekonomik alanda alınan tedbirler ve çıkarılan kararnameler doğrultusunda da, ülkenin ekonomisi korunmaya çalışılmıştı. Pasif korunma önlemleri sivil halkı bilinçlendirmek ve korumak adına alınmış tedbirlerdendi. Halkın kendi kendini koruması gerekiyordu. Karartma uygulaması ve sivil sığınaklar en önemli korunma önlemleriydi. Bunun dışında, dış ülkelerle yapılan anlaşmalar, askeri olarak alınan tedbirlerden sayılmıştı. ülkenin ekonomisini ayakta tutabilmek adına çeşitli kararnameler yayınlanmıştı. Bu kararnamelerin amacı, Türkiye'nin savaşa girmesi durumunda yaşayabileceği yiyecek sıkıntısını en aza indirmekti. 2. Dünya savaşı döneminde halkı bilinçlendirmek için en uygun yol basındı. Basının görevi, genel olarak yayınladığı gazete manşetleriyle halkı güncel olaylardan haberdar etmekti. Hükümetin denetlemesiyle oluşturulan gazete manşetleri halkın cesaretini ve moralini korumaya yönelikti.en_US
dc.description.abstractSecond World War did not require only war countries to take measures. Countries that did not actually enter the war had taken many measures. Turkey was among the countries following the defense policy. Turkey's measures were divided militarily and civil. In addition, the country's economy was tried to be protected in line with the measures taken in the economic field and the decrees taken. Passive protection measures were taken to raise awareness and protect society. People need self-defense. Darkening and civilian refuges were the most important preventive measures. Furthermore, agreements with foreign countries were considered as military measures. Various decrees were issued in order to keep the country's economy up. The aim of these decrees was to minimize the food distress if Turkey entered the war. During the Second World War, media was the most appropriate way to raise public awareness. The duty of the media was to inform the public about the current events in the newspaper headlines. The newspaper headlines created under the supervision of the government were aimed at protecting the public’s courage.en_US
