dc.descriptionThe History of Turkey course (HIST200) is a requirement for all Bilkent undergraduates. It is designed to encourage students to work in groups on projects concerning any topic of their choice that relates to the history of Turkey. It is designed as an interactive course with an emphasis on research and the objective of investigating events, chronologically short historical periods, as well as historic representations. Students from all departments prepare and present final projects for examination by a committee, with 10 projects chosen to receive awards.en_US

dc.description.abstract1971 yılında Bakanlar Kurulu Kararıyla kamu kurumlarının ürettiği her türlü maden hurdalarını Makine ve Kimya Endüstrisi Kurumu’ na (MKEK) satması zorunlu kılınmıştır. Bu araştırma kapsamında genel olarak MKE Kurumu’ nun kamu hurdalarını nasıl değerlendirdiğinin tarihi araştırılacaktır. 1971 yılından önce de kamu hurdalarının alım satımını yapan MKE Kurumu, aynı zamanda gemi sökümü ve geri dönüşümü alanında faaliyet göstermektedir. MKE hurda alımı ve satımıyla ilgili tüm bu faaliyetlerini yürütebilmek için çeşitli birimlere ayrılmıştır. Bu birimler Ankara MKE Hurda İşletmesi Müdürlüğü, İzmir Aliağa Hurda Müdürlüğü, Kırıkkale Hurda Müdürlüğü ve Kocaeli Hurda Müdürlüğü’dür. Araştırmanın kapsamında aynı zamanda MKE’nin hurda alım satımı yaparken nasıl bir mevzuata tabi olduğu da incelenecektir. Bu kurum, Birinci Dünya Savaşı’na Osmanlı Devleti’nin girmesine neden olan Yavuz (Goeben) Gemisi’nin sökülmesi gibi faaliyetleri de yürütmüştür ve bu araştırma kapsamında Yavuz Gemisi’nin MKE tarafından nasıl değerlendirildiği de incelenecektir.en_US
dc.description.abstractIn 1971, with the decision of the Council of Ministers, it was obligatory for all public institutions to sell all kinds of mining scraps produced to the Machinery and Chemical Industry Corporation (MKEK). Within the scope of this research, the history of how the MKE Institution evaluated public scraps in general will be investigated. MKE Institution, which traded public scraps before 1971, also operates in the field of ship dismantling and recycling. MKE is divided into various units in order to carry out all these activities related to the purchase and sale of scrap. These units are Ankara MKE Scrap Management Directorate, İzmir Aliağa Scrap Directorate, Kırıkkale Scrap Directorate and Kocaeli Scrap Directorate. Within the scope of the research, it will also be examined what kind of legislation MKE is subject to when trading scrap. This institution also carried out activities such as the dismantling of the Yavuz (Goeben) Ship, which caused the Ottoman Empire to enter the First World War, and within the scope of this research, how the Yavuz Ship was evaluated by MKE will also be examined.en_US
