dc.descriptionThe History of Turkey course (HIST200) is a requirement for all Bilkent undergraduates. It is designed to encourage students to work in groups on projects concerning any topic of their choice that relates to the history of Turkey. It is designed as an interactive course with an emphasis on research and the objective of investigating events, chronologically short historical periods, as well as historic representations. Students from all departments prepare and present final projects for examination by a committee, with 10 projects chosen to receive awards.

dc.description.abstract27 Mayıs 1960 ile 12 Eylül 1980 tarihlerinde yaşanan askeri darbeler arasında yaşanan süreç Türk siyasi tarihinde yaşanan en çalkantılı süreçlerden biridir. Buna bağlı olarak bu dönemde birçok koalisyon kurulmuş ve kurulan hükümetler sürekli olarak değişmiştir. Ali Naili Erdem de bu dönemde siyasete aktif olarak katılmış, dönemin önemli figürlerinden biri olmuştur. Ali Naili Erdem 1960 yılında yaşanan darbe sonrasındaki ilk seçimle milletvekili seçilmiş, 1980 darbesi sonrasında gelen siyaset yasağı ile politikadan elini çekmek durumunda kalmıştır. Bu araştırmada Ali Naili Erdem'in bizzat yazdığı ve dönemi anlattığı kitabından, dönemin gazetelerinden, meclis tutanaklarından, Ali Naili Erdem, onun kızı ve eşiyle yaptığımız röportajlardan yararlanarak Ali Naili Erdem'in aile yaşantısı ve içinde bulunduğu çalkantılı dönem anlatılmıştır. 1960- 1980 yılları arasında Türk siyasetinde gerçekleşen olayları farklı bir bakış açısından anlayabilmek için Ali Naili Erdem'in yaşadıkları önem taşımaktadır.
dc.description.abstractThe process between May, 27 1960 and September 12,1980 military coups is one of the most tempestuous periods that has been encountered in Turkish political history. Lots of coalition governments were formed within this process and those governments were reshuffling continuously. Ali Naili Erdem was actively participating in politics, being one of the most influential figures in between two military coups. Ali Naili Erdem was elected to the parliament with the first election after 1960 coup. However, in consequence of the political ban that was implied after the 1980 coup, he became obliged to retire from politics. In this particular research, Ali Naili Erdem's family life and the tempestuous political period he has encountered were observed by making use of the books written by Ali Naili Erdem, newspapers and parliamentary minutes of the period, the interview done with Ali Naili Erdem himself, his wife and his daughter. In order to comprehend the events occurred between 1960 1980, Ali Naili Erdem's unique experiences are significantly important.
