dc.description.abstractThis article discusses Turkey's role in Europe as a question of identity. As Europe reinvents itself along ethnic, cultural, and to a certain extent, racial lines, European perceptions of the "Turk" constitute serious obstacles to Turkey's integration into Europe. Turkey's hopes for full membership in the EU are far from being materialized because of questions regarding Turkey's Europeanness.en_US
