Cumhuriyetin ilanından beri Türkiye’nin siyasi yapısında uzlaşmazlıklar boy gösterdi. Bu uzlaşmazlıkların giderek arttığı 1960’lı dönemlerde ise bazı kesimler tarafından çözüm askeri darbe olarak görüldü ve bu durum birçok askeri darbeye sebep oldu. 27 Mayıs 1960’ta başarılı olan askeri darbe girişiminden sonra yeni bir hükümet kuruldu. Talat Aydemir bu hükümetle aynı fikirleri paylaşmadığı için 20 Mayıs 1963’te başka bir askeri darbe girişiminde bulundu. Bu darbe girişiminde harp okulu öğrencileri farklı farklı alanlarda nöbete gönderildi. Bu sırada harp Okulunda okuyan olan Mümtaz Okur, bu darbe girişiminde görev almış bir subaydır. Bu çalışmada Mümtaz Okur’un kendisi ve torunu Orçun Okur’la yapılan röportajlar, dönemin gazete ve yazıları, bu darbe girişimi üzerine yazılan makaleler ışığında 20 Mayıs 1963 darbe girişiminin Mümtaz Okur’un hayatına, Okur ailesine ve döneme etkisi incelenmiş ve bu dönemde yaşanılanlar Mümtaz Okur’un gözünden anlatılmıştır.

Since the proclamation of Turkish Republic, Turkish politics was subject to various conflicts. Starting with the year 1960’s the severity of the conflicts was increasing expeditiously, and some suggested military coup as a solution. As a result of this notion, many military coups happened, one of which being on 27 May 1960. After the formation of the government, Talat Aydemir planned another military coup on 20 May 1963, since he did not share the same political thoughts with the new government. During this military coup attempt, many military academy students were sent to guard duty. Mümtaz Okur was one of the military academy students who partook in the guard duty during this military coup attempt. In this study, in the light of Mümtaz Okur’s and his grandson Orçun Okur’s interviews, newspapers and articles of the time, and articles written about this military coup attempt, the effect of military coup on 20 May 1963 to Mümtaz Okur’s life, to Okur family and to the term was studied and the events were explained in the eyes of Mümtaz Okur.
