ODTÜ İstatistik Bölümü'nün tarihi

Abstract

İstatistik bilimi, belli bir amaç için veri toplama, toplanan verileri grafiklerle ve tablolarla raporlama ve deneysel yöntemlerle açıklamaya dayalı bir bilim dalıdır. İstatistik; ekonomi, tıp, sosyoloji, mühendislik gibi birçok alanda yer edinmektedir. İstatistik biliminin Türkiye’deki gelişimine en büyük katkıyı sağlayan kurumlardan biri olan Orta Doğu Teknik Üniversitesi, bu araştırma raporunun konusu olmuştur. ODTÜ bünyesi altında birçok bölüme katkıda bulunan İstatistik Bölümü, kuruluşundan itibaren araştırılmış; bölümün eğitim programı incelenmiş, bölümün eğitim politikaları ve geçirdiği değişimler gözden geçirilmiş, belirtilen bu durumlar hakkında bilgi edinmek amacıyla sözlü ve yazılı kaynaklar analiz edilmiştir.

Statistics is a science based on collecting data for a specific purpose, reporting the collected data with graphs and tables, and explaining with experimental methods. Statistics holds an important place in many fields such as economics, medicine, sociology and engineering. Middle East Technical University, which is one of the institutions making the largest contribution to the development of statistics in Turkey, has been the subject of this research report. Contributing to many departments under METU, the Department of Statistics has been studied starting from its establishment; The education program of the department was examined, the education policies of the department and the changes it had undergone were researched.
