Abstract

In this thesis I will argue that the representation of national masculinities in crisis in the short stories of Murathan Mungan intervene in the normative discourses of the nation state around masculinities. In this context I demonstrate how performativity creates alternative masculinities which are in a state of occurrence, lost their boundaries and based on post human hybrid embodiment against a form of performativity which becomes part of the nation-state’s ideals to produce gendered and docile subjects. Through an analysis of Mungan’s stories with close reading this study also discusses that masculinity is not a stable gender category and it does not represent an undisputed power and privilege position.
