Tarihçesi Thomas Edison'un icat ettiği fonografa dayanan gramofon 1930'lu yılların başında Türkiye'ye geldi. Hassas bir yapısı olan gramofonu, pahalı bir cihaz olduğu için tamir ettirme ihtiyacı doğmaya başladı ve gramofon tamirciliği mesleği ortaya çıktı. İstanbul Kapalıçarşı'da kendi dükkanı olan Mehmet Öztekin, babasından devraldığı bu mesleğini uzun yıllardır icra eden bir zanaatkar. Gramofonun yıllar içinde yüzleştiği zorluklar ve inişli çıkışlı trendi, Mehmet Öztekin'in hayatını birçok yönden etkiledi. Daha sonra, Mehmet Öztekin gramofon tamirciliğinin yanında gramofon üretimine de başladı. Yıllar içinde kazandığı saygı ve itibarı,"Gramofon Baba" lakabını almasını sağladı. Her şeye rağmen Mehmet Öztekin'in hayatında gramofonların yeri her zaman olduğu gibi önemli.

Gramophone which is developed after a machine called phonograph by Thomas Edison came to Turkey in the early 1930s. Since the gramophone was an expensive device, the need to have it repaired started and the profession of gramophone repairing emerged. Mehmet Öztekin, who has his own shop in the Grand Bazaar, is a craftsman who has been performing this profession for many years. The changing trends in music technology, the ups and downs in the gramophone market over the years affected the many different aspects of Mehmet Öztekin's life. Later, Mehmet Öztekin started to produce gramophone in addition to gramophone repairing. The respect and reputation he gained over the years made him receive the nickname "Gramophone Papa".
