Osmanlı modernleşmesinin Cumhuriyet le birlikte öne çıkarılan kadının toplumsal yaşama katılması yönündeki vurgusu, doğrudan Mustafa Kemal in öncülük ettiği ve devlet kurumları özellikle eğitim kurumlarıyla desteklenen balolarla ortaya çıkar. Cumhuriyet baloları, bütün elitizm, taklitçilik ve yozlaşma eleştirilerine karşılık, kadının ve toplumsal yaşamda kadın-erkek birlikteliğinin aracı ve simgesi olmuştur.en_US
