Yahudilerin büyük bir çoğunluğu Balat semtinde ikamet etmişlerdir. Bu sebeple Balat’ta pek çok sinagog görmek mümkündür. Ahrida Sinagogu göçmen Makedonyalı Yahudiler tarafından 17. yüzyılda inşa edilmiştir ve İstanbul’daki en eski ve en ihtişamlı sinagoglardan biridir. Sinagog gemiye benzer tevasıyla ünlüdür. Bu araştırma makalesi Ahrida Sinagogu’nu ve şimdiki sinagog başkanının kız kardeşi Korin Suryano’yu incelemeyi hedeflemektedir. Korin Suryano 12 Mart 2018’de vefat etmiştir ancak bıraktığı miras hala etkisini sürdürmektedir.

A significant amount of Jewish population lived in Balat district, so it is possible to observe a lot of synagogues in this location. Ahrida Synagogue is one of the oldest and glorious synagogues in İstanbul. It was built by Jews of Ohrid in 17th century, who migrated to the Balat district. The synagogue is famous for its boat-shaped bimah. This research paper aims to analyze the Ahrida Synagogue and Korin Suryano, who is the sister of the current president of the synagogue. Korin Suryano passed away on March 12th, 2018 but her legacy in the district is still alive.
