      Abstract
In this study, the figure of shahmaran (a half-snake, half-human hybrid) and the adventures of related characters in Zülfü Livaneli's film entitled Şahmaran: Bir İstanbul Masali (Shahmaran: An İstanbul Tale) (1993) are compared with those that are found in "The Story of Hasib Kerimeddin and the Shahmaran" from The Book of One Thousand and One Nights. The comparisons mainly entail the images, the themes, the fantastic discourse and the narrator.
