      Abstract
This April 2014 will mark the tenth anniversary of the Annan Plan referenda, the hitherto most comprehensive attempt to find a solution to a decade-long conflict on the island of Cyprus. Ten years ago most Greek Cypriots thought that the EU membership of the Republic of Cyprus could facilitate the conflict resolution process in the divided island and result in a solution closer to their expectations than the Annan plan per se. These expectations were not fulfilled.
