12 Eylül mahkûmu bir milletvekili: Mehmet Tahir Şaşmaz

Abstract

12 Eylül 1980 Darbesi, Türkiye siyasi tarihinin en çalkantılı süreçlerinden bir tanesidir. Ülkenin çeşitli sıkıntılarına çözüm üretemeyen siyasi partiler, askerin yönetimi ele almasıyla karşı karşıya kalmıştır. Mehmet Tahir Şaşmaz de bu dönemde siyasette aktif olmuş, darbe süresince tutuklanıp idamla yargılanmıştır. 12 Eylül 1980 üzerine çokça yazılıp çizilse de darbeyi bizzat yaşayanlar hakkında pek kalem oynatılmamıştır. Bu kapsamda 12 Eylül 1980’e darbeyi yaşayanların gözünden bakabilmek için hem darbe öncesinde hem de sonrasında milletvekilliği yapmış olan Mehmet Tahir Şaşmaz’ın hayatı araştırılmıştır. Bu araştırmada Mehmet Tahir Şaşmaz ve onun en yakınları olan eşi ve oğluyla sözlü görüşmeler gerçekleştirilmiştir. Bunların yanı sıra dönemin gazetelerine, meclis tutanaklarına ve yine o dönemi anlatan kitaplara da başvurulmuştur. 12 Eylül 1980 Darbesi süresince yaşananları farklı bir perspektiften gözlemlemek için Mehmet Tahir Şaşmaz’ın yaşadıkları önem taşımaktadır.

The military coup of 12th September of 1980 has been one of the most controversial periods in Turkey’s political history. Political parties, being unable to find a solution to various problems, witnessed the army take charge. Mehmet Tahir Şaşmaz was actively participating in politics and was arrested and charged with death penalty in the process. Even though there have been much said and written about 12th September of 1980, the ones who experienced the coup remained in the background. Within this scope, in order to be able to look at 1980 from the perspectives of those who lived through the coup, the life of Mehmet Tahir Şaşmaz was studied. In this study, interviews were done with Mehmet Tahir Şaşmaz as well as the ones who are the closest to him, his wife and son. In addition, newspapers, books and parliamentary minutes of that time were also taken into account. What Mehmet Tahir Şaşmaz had experienced is of vital importance to observe what happened in the process of the coup of 12th September of 1980 in a different perspective.
