Yaklaşık olarak 14. yüzyıldan beri devam eden Geleneksel Kırkpınar Yağlı Güreşleri Cumhuriyetin ilanından sonra da devam etmiştir. 2022 yılında 661 incisi düzenlenecek olan Kırkpınar'da ağalık seçimleri, yapıldığı alan, pehlivanlara ve başpehlivana verilen ödüller, güreşleri tertipleyen yetkili kişi ve kurumlarda değişiklikler olmuştur. 1923’ten bu yana 98 kez gerçekleşen bu güreşlerde 46 farklı başpehlivan olmuştur. Geleneksel Kırkpınar Yağlı Güreşlerinin UNESCO somut olmayan kültürel varlıklar listesine dahil edilmesi ile beraber sınır ötesinde popülerliği artmış olsa da yurt içerisinde böyle bir popülerlik artışı gözlemlenememektedir.

Traditional Kırkpınar Oil Wrestling, which has been going on since the 14th century, continued after the proclamation of the Republic. In Kırkpınar, which will be held for the 661st time in 2022, there have been changes in the election of the aghas, the place where it is held, the awards given to the wrestlers and the wrestlers, and the authorized persons and institutions that organize the wrestling.
