Item Restricted Ard-çağdaşçılığın günümüz Türk sanatına yansıyan boyutları(1989) Özsezgin, KayaItem Open Access Artistic practice in the aftermath of postmodernism : a case study(Bilkent University, 2017-01) Çelen, İlkerPostmodern discourse is still the dominant factor in the 21st century art production. On the other hand, there have appeared a number of alternative concepts which suggest that the influence of postmodern tendencies on art is diminishing, becoming unable to meet today's realities, or transforming altogether. The common ground among these new concepts is that they postulate a partial return to modernist tendencies such as creativity, originality, and/or uniqueness, without denying the achievements of postmodernism such as deconstruction, open-endedness or interaction, thus creating an oscillation. The thesis aims to examine a selection of recent new media works which are all connected with these new tendencies in one way or another, based on their conceptual backgrounds and/or their aesthetic approach in relation to the evolution of new media. While investigating these artworks by case study approach, the thesis claims that these artworks can be taken as indicators of a new understanding in arts.Item Restricted Avrupa merkezciliğin postmodern eleştirisi Kundera, Şara Sayın ve Kafka(1995) Evren, SüreyyaItem Restricted Aydınlanma, postmodern ve kayıp halka(1992) Hünler, HakkıItem Restricted Aynadaki kitap / kitaptaki ayna; postmodern anlatının bazı sorunları(1991) Koçak, OrhanItem Restricted Bir Eylülist yazıcı: Bilge Karasu(1994) Mısır, Mustafa BayramItem Restricted Book Reviews; Reminiscence and Re-Creation in Contemporary American fiction by Stacey Olster(1990) Curdy, Carol A. Utilizing qualitative research methods, the study was conducted through interviewing twenty counterfeit designer brand consumers nine of which additionally possessed the authentic items. Three consumers who solely consume the authentic items were also included in the sample. Findings suggest that consumers prefer counterfeit designer brand clothing not only for economic reasons, but also for symbolic reasons such as ardent desire, reference group influence, experiential fulfillment, nostalgic appeal as well as perceivably unfair prices of authentic items. Consumers selectively display the counterfeit items in different public domains and selectively disclose information about their consumption to avoid social anxiety and embarrassment. As a consequence, consumers authenticate an otherwise strange identity through such consumption practices. It is not only fantasy and real that commingle, but also fake and authentic, which mesh through a process of authentication as determined by the desires of the consumer. The study has implications for the literature on counterfeit consumption, price fairness, symbolic consumption as well as postmodernism and concludes with a discussion of limitations and opportunities future research.Item Open Access The 'converge' vs, 'fragmentation' dilemma in metaphoric analysis of organizations(Bilkent University, 1996) Keskin, Ayşe MüjdeEight different organizational studies were performed on ANFA, Ankara Fair Limited Company through the lenses of Morgan’s( 1986) metaphors in 1993 before the municipality elections that changed the political party in charge of the municipality. These eight organizational studies were done through eight different metaphors which were introduced in Gareth Morgan’s book, “Images of Organizations”. These were Organizations As ‘Machines’, ‘Organisms’, ‘Brain’, ‘Culture’, ‘Political Systems’, ‘Psychic Prisons’, ‘Flux & Transformation’ and ‘Instruments of Domination’. The metaphoric organizational analysis are considered part of the postmodern approach. According to this approach, the organizational analysis should be able to find the ‘instabilities’ of the ‘formal’ reality of the organization to uncover the ‘difference’ -- multi-dimensions of the organizational reality . The eight metaphoric studies were designed as an experiment. The purpose of this study to test this postmodern proposition of a multifaceted representational reality.Item Restricted Death and Vocation: Narrativizing Narrative Theory(1992) Robbins, BruceItem Restricted Dialogue across differences: Continuing the conversation(1991) Burbules, Nicholas C.Item Open Access Dogma/Dogme 95 : manifesto for contemporary cinema and realism(Bilkent University, 2003) Yalgın, EmreThis study investigates Dogma/Dogme’95, which is the latest collectivism seen in the history of cinema. In the study, (illusion of) realistic aspect of a cinematic experience is taken into account in order to examine the „shifts‟ occurred in the expectations and the understanding of a cinematic experience due to changes within the social paradigm. In this mentioned context, the movie Avatar (2009) is analyzed through its hyper-realistic characteristics with respect to postmodernist notion of understanding. As a result, it could be said that, due to changes on the mode of thought, any understanding could be shaped inevitably, under the effect of the „norms‟ that came with the mode of thought. In this study, the point tried to be shown is that the changes in the mode of thought has a reflection on the understanding of a cinematic experience.Item Open Access Iraq war films : defining a subgenre(Bilkent University, 2015-01) Yüksel, Magdalena AgataThis thesis analyzes a new subgenre of war films, concentrating on particular case of Iraq War films. Treating the war film genre within the notion of a historical event, war is here understood as a setting rather than a direct battlefield experience. Consequently, this thesis recognizes the subgenre of Iraq War films as encapsulating the experiences from both the warzone and homefront. The focus here is thus not only limited to the soldiers at the front, but also to their families, overseeing the trauma as happening in the U.S. While trying to distinguish the conventions of this new subgenre, this dissertation also focuses on the historical context of the war, comparing the War on Terror’s context and representations to those of the World War II and Vietnam War. Ultimately, defining Iraq War films is set on the axis of the previous war films’ conventions, the new technological nature of warfare, and an intimate link between the postmodern influence that affects both narrative and visual style of Iraq War films.Item Restricted Konu-m-lar: Yeni bakış açıları peşinde(1991) Oktay, Ahmet
