Abdülhamid’in Ertuğrul fırkateynini İslam dünyasının farklı bölgelerine, özellikle Güney ve Güneydoğu Asya’daki Müslüman ülkelerine, göndererek yabancı ülkelerle ilişkilerinde güttüğü Pan-İslamizm politikası incelenecektir. In this paper, the event of sending the frigate Ertugrul from Istanbul, by the direct orders of Sultan Abdulhamid II, to Japan and how she sank on her way back home are to be investigated. Namely, this paper analyzes two main aspects of the frigate’s voyage: the tragedy as the milestone in the Japanese-Ottoman relations; and how sending the frigate Ertugrul was part of Abdulhamid II’s foreign policy toward different places of the Islamic world, particularly southern and south-eastern Asian Muslim communities, in what is oft-called ‘Pan-Islamism.’21 pagesEnglishCreative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlikehttp://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-sa/4.0/OttomanJapanRelationsThe Frigate ErtugrulPan-IslamismForeign PolicyMuslim CommunitiesThe Frigate Ertugrul as a Turning Point in the Ottoman Relations with Japan and the Lands En RouteStudent ProjectSPB3758
