It is designed to encourage students to work in groups on projects concerning any topic of their choice that relates to the history of Turkey. It is designed as an interactive course with an emphasis on research and the objective of investigating events, chronologically short historical periods, as well as historic representations. Students from all departments prepare and present final projects for examination by a committee, with 10 projects chosen to receive awards.Includes bibliographical references (pages 15-16).17 Ağustos 1999 Gölcük Depremi, Türkiye Cumhuriyeti tarihinin en yüksek hasar bırakan doğal afetlerinden biri olma özelliğini taşımaktadır. Bu çalışmada, olayın yaşanma evresinden sonra ne gibi fiziksel yardım süreçleri işlendiği ve aynı zamanda bu sarsıcı olaydan psikolojik olarak etkilenen insanlara nasıl psikolojik destek verildiğinin detaylı bilgisi işlenmektedir. Çalışmanın birinci bölümünde; depremin hangi bölgeleri etkilediği, tam olarak ne zaman ve ne kadar süreyle gerçekleştiği, insan ve mal kaybının büyüklüğü gibi genel bilgilendirmeler istatistiksel değerlere dayanılarak ve medya aracılığıyla yapılmaktadır. Çalışmanın ikinci bölümünde, deprem sonrası fiziksel kurtarma faaliyetlerinin nasıl yürütüldüğü, enkaz kaldırma çalışmalarının içerisinde bulunan kişilerden biri olan Yılmaz Bozkurt’un yaşadıkları zorluklar ve aynı zamanda diğer ülkelerin yaptığı yardımların önemi aktarılmaktadır. Çalışmanın üçüncü bölümünde ise, deprem sonrası depremzedelerin üzerindeki şok etkilerinden kurtulmaları amacıyla aldıkları psikolojik yardımlar ve psikolojik destek vermeye giden insanlardan biri olan psikolog Nigar Şentürk Şahin’in yaşadıkları anlatılmaktadır.17 August 1999 Earthquake of Gölcük considered as one of the most destructive natural disasters. In this article, from beginning of the disaster to end, it’s both physical and psychological supports are handled in detail. In the first chapter of the article, the parts that affected of the country, when it happened, the number of people who lost their lives and the number of buildings that collapsed handled with statiscal informations. In the second chapter of the article, we give answers of how the search and physical help teams are worked and the hardships that Yılmaz Bozkurt had. Moreover, the supports that are maden by the countries are also handled.
