It is designed to encourage students to work in groups on projects concerning any topic of their choice that relates to the history of Turkey. It is designed as an interactive course with an emphasis on research and the objective of investigating events, chronologically short historical periods, as well as historic representations. Students from all departments prepare and present final projects for examination by a committee, with 10 projects chosen to receive awards.Includes bibliographical references (page 15).Bu araştırma projesinin amacı, seksenli yıllarda Alanya’ya gelen ulusal ve uluslararası turist sayısındaki ani artışı izleyen süreçte şehirde meydana gelen sosyal, ekonomik ve kültürel değişimlerin Alanya’nın tarihsel süreci kapsamında incelenmesidir. Bu amaç doğrultusunda ilk odak noktası Alanya’nın turistler tarafından tercih edilmesinin altında yatan tarihi, kültürel ve coğrafi özelliklerinin incelenmesidir. Sonrasında özellikle Avrupalı turistlerin şehirde ev sahibi olmaya başlamalarını takiben Alanya’nın demografik ve sosyal yapısında meydana gelen değişimler ve bunların şehrin tarihi kapsamındaki önemi araştırılmıştır. Alanya’nın turistik tarihinde meydana gelen bu değişimin iki farklı önemli yönüne dikkat çekmek amacıyla önce Alanya’ya yerleşmiş yabancı uyruklu iki kişi ile, sonrasında ise Alanya’nın yerel halkından yerel yönetim görevlileri ve halktan insanlarla röportaj yapılmıştır. Edinilen bilgiler ışığında karakteristik bir özellik olarak büyük kesimi birbiriyle akrabalık ilişkisine sahip olan Alanya halkının günlük yaşantılarında meydana gelen değişimler incelenmiştir. Son olarak turizmin Alanya’nın ekonomik gelişimi üzerindeki etkisi ve halkın temel geçim kaynaklarından biri haline gelmesi tarihsel süreçte incelenmiştir.The purpose of this project is to examine the sociological, economical and cultural developments that occured in Alanya following the unexpected influx of international and national tourists in the 1980’s. In accordance with this purpose, the primary focus of this paper was to examine the historical, cultural and geographical characteristics of Alanya that made the city a tourist attraction. The secondary focus is to study the importance of demographic and social change Alanya underwent as a result of foreign, especially European, settlements within a historical context. In order to demonstrate the change in Alanya’s historical background from both sides, interviews were made with two foreign residents, and then with local residents including district administration officials and tradespeople. In light of the information acquired through these interviews, the change in the daily lives of Alanya’s residents most of whom share a line of descent was examined.
