It is designed to encourage students to work in groups on projects concerning any topic of their choice that relates to the history of Turkey. It is designed as an interactive course with an emphasis on research and the objective of investigating events, chronologically short historical periods, as well as historic representations. Students from all departments prepare and present final projects for examination by a committee, with 10 projects chosen to receive awards.Includes bibliographical references (pages 18-19).Caz müziği toplumsal çatışmaların aynı zamanda kaynaşmaların bir ürünü olarak müzik tarihinde kendini göstermiştir. Farklı geleneklerin ve toplumsal değerlerin yavaş yavaş aynı çatı altında toplandığı bu müzik türü Afrika'dan Amerika'ya köle olarak gönderilen siyahilerin ezgilerinin ve Avrupa çalgılarının bir sentezidir. Bu sentezin zamanla evirilmesi, değişmesi ve birtakım nitelikler kazanması cazı zamansız ve evrensel yapmıştır. Bu çalışmada 1800'lü yılların sonundan bugüne kadar müzik ve sanat dünyasında önemli bir yere sahip olan caz müziğinin nitelikleri, evrensel boyuttaki önemi, Türkiye'deki yeri ve Akbank Caz Festivali'nin Türkiye'de caz kültürünün oluşmasına katkıları değerlendirilecektir. Çalışma kapsamında özellikle Akbank Caz Festivali'nin ve festivalde yer alan sanatçıların Türk müzik endüstrisine katkıları üzerinde durulacaktır çünkü Akbank Caz Festivali caz müziğinin yaygınlaştırılmasının yanında aynı zamanda sanata Türk toplumu tarafından verilen önemin artmasına da hizmet etmiştir.Jazz music manifested itself in the history of music as a result of social conflicts as well as a fusion of different cultures. Jazz music is a unification of various traditions and social values. Also, it is a synthesis of melodies of slaves who were sent from Africa to America and European instruments. With the evolution of this synthesis jazz music became universal and unseasonable. In this research, from the end of the 19th century to present, development of jazz music, how it gained its place among the music world including Turkey, its features, significance and finally contributions of Akbank Jazz Festival is going to be analyzed.
