It is designed to encourage students to work in groups on projects concerning any topic of their choice that relates to the history of Turkey. It is designed as an interactive course with an emphasis on research and the objective of investigating events, chronologically short historical periods, as well as historic representations. Türkiye’ye de gelen caz, başlarda yabancı müzisyenleri tarafından, sonrasında onların da etkileriyle özellikle 1960-70’li yıllarda yerli caz müzisyenleri tarafından icra edilmiştir. Bu dönemlerde Türk müziği ile caz müziğinin arasında yeni bir sentez oluşturulmuştur ve pek çok sanatçı tarafından icra edilmiştir. Özdemir Erdoğan da bu sanatçılardan biridir. Bu araştırmada caz müziğinin ne olduğu, ortaya çıkışı ve yayılış süreci, ülkemize nasıl geldiği ve özellikle de 1960 ve 70’li yıllardaki gelişim sürecini incelenmiştir. Bu incelemeler, geleneksel Türk müziği ve batı müziğini sentezlediği parçalarıyla Türkiye'de caz müziğinin önemli temsilcilerinden biri olan Özdemir Erdoğan'ın sanat yaşamı ve özellikle de caz müziği alanında yaptığı çalışmaları, bu türün ülkemizde yaygınlaşması ve gelişmesindeki katkıları ile bir araya getirilmiştir. Caz, caz tarihi ve Türkiye’de caz konulu çeşitli yazılı ve görsel kaynaklar incelenmiş, bu kaynaklar ve Özdemir Erdoğan ile yapılan röportaj ışığında sanatçının Türk caz müzik tarihindeki önemi ve yeri bu araştırmanın odak noktası olmuştur.Jazz music is a genre that emerged in the early 20th century in America and gradually spread to many different parts of the world. Jazz also came to Turkey, initially performed by foreign musicians. Later, influenced by these foreign musicians, local jazz artists began to emerge, particularly in the 1960s and 70s. During this period, a new synthesis between Turkish music and jazz music was created and performed by many artists. Özdemir Erdoğan is one of these artists. This research examines what jazz music is, how it originated and spread, how it arrived in Turkey, and particularly its development during the 1960s and 70s. These examinations bring together Özdemir Erdoğan's artistic life and his works in the field of jazz music, highlighting his significant contributions to the proliferation and development of this genre in Turkey through pieces that synthesize traditional Turkish musical textures with Western music. Various written and visual sources on jazz, jazz history, and jazz in Turkey have been reviewed.
