It is designed to encourage students to work in groups on projects concerning any topic of their choice that relates to the history of Turkey. It is designed as an interactive course with an emphasis on research and the objective of investigating events, chronologically short historical periods, as well as historic representations. Students from all departments prepare and present final projects for examination by a committee, with 10 projects chosen to receive awards.Includes bibliographical references (pages 14-15).This research paper aims to investigate the effects of the sanctions imposed on Turkey due to its military operation in Cyprus in 1974. It gives a historical overview of the events that led to this military operation and also states the reasons for the U.S. arms embargo on Turkey. Turkey-the U.S. relations were affected by this embargo and it depicted Turkish over-reliance on the American market. Moreover, it explains the shifts in national politics following the embargoes and expounds upon the development of the Turkish defense industry. Overall, the paper explains how cordial relations were restored between the two countries by gradually lifting the embargo and signing the Defense and Cooperation Agreement in 1980.Bu araştırma makalesi, 1974'te Kıbrıs'taki askeri operasyonu nedeniyle Türkiye'ye uygulanan yaptırımların etkilerini incelemeyi amaçlamaktadır. Makale, bu askeri operasyona yol açan olayların tarihsel bir genel bakışını verir ve ABD'nin Türkiye'ye uyguladığı silah ambargosunun nedenlerini belirtir. Türkiye-Amerika ilişkileri bu ambargodan etkilendi ve Türkiye Amerikan pazarına aşırı bağımlılığı hâle geldi. Ayrıca, bu ambargo, yaptırımları takiben ulusal politikadaki değişimleri ve Türk savunma sanayinin gelişimini açıklar.
