The love between the prince and the dervish is discussed in this book and it is described in an allegorical style through gûy and çevgân. At the end of the story has turned into divine love. At the beginning of sixteenth century this work for the first time translated by Lamiî Çelebi (1532) to the Ottoman language. Ġlhâmî who lived in the second half of the same century has translated the work into Ottoman language in a different style. Ġlhâmî introduced a full translation of the work. He added also his own comments. Examining Ġhâmî’s translation method constitutes the basis of this study. At that time "literary translation" meant "extended translation”. Ġlhâmî's translation did not fit with this tradition and it was standing contrary to this tradition. In this study, firstly the game, Ball and Polo Stick and its history and works of Ârifî and Lamiî Çelebi on this subject are given. Then it focused on understanding the literal translation of the Ottoman period. Secondly scientific transcription of the Ġlhâmî's translation provided. In the third part of the study, it is focused on the tradition of translation of the Ottoman Turkish literature. Following this tradition Ġlhâmî’s work are interpreted as a literary translation. Finally, we focused on Ġlhâmî’s success and failures about his translation from Persian language. In the conclusion section of this thesis, reasons for using a method out of tradition are issued.vii, 231 leaves, illustrationsEnglishinfo:eu-repo/semantics/openAccessGûy & ÇevgânÂrifİlhâmîTranslation TraditionMasnaviPK6451.A7 H3520 2013Persian poetry--Translations into Turkish.Osmanlı-Türk edebiyatında ilginç bir çeviri örneği : İlhâmî'nin Gûy u Çevgân çevirisiThesis
