It is designed to encourage students to work in groups on projects concerning any topic of their choice that relates to the history of Turkey. It is designed as an interactive course with an emphasis on research and the objective of investigating events, chronologically short historical periods, as well as historic representations. Osmanlı İmparatorluğu'nun modernleşme çabaları kapsamında inşa edilen ve İzmir-Aydın Demiryolu Hattı'nın başlangıç noktası olan Alsancak Garı, ekonomik, sosyal ve kültürel alanda İzmir'e önemli katkılar sağlamıştır. Osmanlı döneminden Cumhuriyet yıllarına kadar Gar’ın rolü, tarım ürünlerinin taşınması, ticaretin genişlemesi ve şehrin kozmopolit yapısının oluşumuna etkisi bu projede detaylı şekilde ele alınmıştır. Cumhuriyet döneminde gerçekleştirilen millileştirme ve modernizasyon çalışmalarıyla Gar, yalnızca bir ulaşım merkezi değil, aynı zamanda ekonomik kalkınmanın ve kültürel dönüşümün bir sembolü haline gelmiştir. Bu bağlamda, Alsancak Garı'nın İzmir ve Türkiye tarihi açısından taşıdığı öneme vurgu yapılmıştır.This article examines the historical development of İzmir Alsancak Station and its effects on the city. Built as part of the modernization efforts of the Ottoman Empire and the starting point of the İzmir-Aydın Railway Line, Alsancak Station has made significant contributions to İzmir in economic, social, and cultural areas. The role of the Station from the Ottoman period to the Republican years, the transportation of agricultural products, the expansion of trade and the formation of the city's cosmopolitan structure are discussed in detail in this project. With the nationalization and modernization efforts conducted during the Republican period, the Station has become not only a transportation center but also a symbol of economic development and cultural transformation.
