It is designed to encourage students to work in groups on projects concerning any topic of their choice that relates to the history of Turkey. It is designed as an interactive course with an emphasis on research and the objective of investigating events, chronologically short historical periods, as well as historic representations. Students from all departments prepare and present final projects for examination by a committee, with 10 projects chosen to receive awards.Includes bibliographical references (pages 21-22).1923 yılında İstanbul’un Polonez Köyü’nde dünyaya gelen, 2008 yılına yani ölümüne kadar yaptıkları ile adını opera dünyasına altın harflerle yazdıran Leyla Gencer dünyanın en önde gelen sopranolarındandır. Başarılı bir opera sanatçısı olmasının yanı sıra ailesi, yaşamı ve kişiliği ile fark yaratmış, benzersiz bir sanatçı haline gelmiştir. Hayatında çok sevdiği ülkesinden dahi ayrılmasını gerektirecek sebepler karşısında ülkesine olan sevgisini hiçbir zaman yitirmemiş ve yapığı her işte ülkesine olan sevgisini vurgulamıştır. Türkiye’yi sık sık ziyaret ederek Türk Operası’nın gelişimine büyük katkılarda bulunmuştur. Bu yazıda Leyla Gencer’ in hayatı, opera kariyeri, kişiliği ve Türk Operası’na yapmış olduğu katkılar incelenecek ve detaylı bir analiz yapılarak anlatılacaktır.Leyla Gencer, who was born in 1923 in Polonez Köy, Istanbul and had her name written in the letters of gold in the history of opera with the accomplishment she had made until her death in 2008, is one of the most outstanding sopranos of the world. Besides being a succesful opera artist, she made a difference with her family, personality, way of living and became an unique artist. Even when she was made to leave her country that she loves so much, she always kept loving her country and she emphasized it with every work she has ever done. Visiting Turkey very often, she contributed a lot the the development of the Turkish Opera.
