It is designed to encourage students to work in groups on projects concerning any topic of their choice that relates to the history of Turkey. It is designed as an interactive course with an emphasis on research and the objective of investigating events, chronologically short historical periods, as well as historic representations. Students from all departments prepare and present final projects for examination by a committee, with 10 projects chosen to receive awards.Includes bibliographical references (pages 22-24).8 Ekim 1996 yılında Ege Denizi'nin uluslararası hava sahasında Türk ve Yunan Hava Kuvvetlerine ait savaş uçakları karşılaşmış ve karşılıklı hava muharebe manevralarına girmişlerdir. Bu sırada Thanos Grivas pilotluğunu yaptığı Yunan Hava Kuvvetlerine ait bir Mirage 2000 uçağı hava-hava füzelerinden birini ateşleyerek Hv.Plt.Yzb.Nail Erdoğan ve Hv.Plt.Yb.Osman Çiçekli'nin yönetimindeki Türk Hava Kuvvetlerine ait bir F16-D uçağını vurmuş, gerçekleşen patlamada Yzb.Nail Erdoğan şehit olmuş, uçak yanarak denize düşmeüş ve Yb.Osman Çiçekli ise Yunan arama kurtarma ekipleri tarafından yaralı olarak kurtarılmıştır. Uçağın enkazına ulaşılamaması nedeniyle olay kamuoyunda açıklığa kavuşmamıştır. Yapılan araştırmalar ve basınında çıkan haberler ışığında uçağın düşürüldüğü sonucuna varılmıştır. Geçmişte Ege Denizinde yaşanan Taşoz, Kardak gibi krizlerin iki ülke arasındaki gerginliği arttırmış olması ve yaşanacak başka bir sorunun savaş ortamına yol açabileceği ihtimali sebebiyle Türkiye Cumhuriyetinin olayın üstüne gitmediği düşünülmektedir.On 8th of October 1996, Turkish and Greek fighter planes met in international airspace over the Aegean Sea and remained engaged in combat maneuvers, in which the Greek Mirage 2000, piloted by Thanos Grivas, shot the Turkish F-16D, on the command of Capt.Nail Erdoğan and Lt.Col.Osman Çiçekli. In the event, Capt.Erdoğan was martyred, the plane splashed and Lt.Col.Çiçekli was rescued wounded by Greek Search and Rescue team. Due to inaccessibility of the wreckage of Turkish F-16, the event remained shrouded in mystery. Through the research conducted and evaluation of echoes of the event in media, it has been concluded that Turkish F 16D was shot down by the Greek M-2000.
