It is designed to encourage students to work in groups on projects concerning any topic of their choice that relates to the history of Turkey. It is designed as an interactive course with an emphasis on research and the objective of investigating events, chronologically short historical periods, as well as historic representations. Students from all departments prepare and present final projects for examination by a committee, with 10 projects chosen to receive awards.Includes bibliographical references (page 13).Bu makalede, küçük yaştan itibaren İzmir’de bir oto-tamir dükkânında çalışan Raif Bıyık’ın, zaman içerisinde “Mercedesçi Raif Usta” lakaplı başarılı bir oto-tamirciye dönüşme süreci incelenmiştir. İzmir’de mesleğindeki başarısıyla ünlenmeye başlayan Raif Bıyık, Mercedes- Benz firmasında eğitim görmek üzere 1966 yılında Almanya’ya gönderilmiş ve orada aldığı eğitim başarısının anahtarı olmuştur. Bu süreci daha iyi açıklayabilmek adına o dönemde Türkiye’de otomotiv sanayinin durumu, Mercedes’in kısa tarihi ve yurt dışından çırak kabul politikası açıklanmıştır. Raif Bıyık’ın kendisiyle, aile bireyleriyle ve meslektaşları ile yapılan görüşmeler doğrultusunda Raif Bıyık’ın çocukluk ve gençlik yılları, Almanya’daki eğitiminden önceki ve sonraki süreçte meslek hayatı, İzmir Sanayi Sitelerine yaptığı katkılar anlatılmıştır.In this article, the story of Raif Bıyık, who worked in an auto repair shop in İzmir from a young age, turning from an apprentice into a successful auto-mechanic nicknamed "Mercedesçi Raif Usta" in time was studied. Raif Bıyık, who became famous for his success in his profession in İzmir, was sent to Germany in 1966 to study at Mercedes-Benz, and the education he received there became the key to his success. In order to better explain this process, the conditions of automotive industry in Turkey at that era, the brief history of Mercedes, and their policy of accepting apprentices from abroad are explained.
