It is designed to encourage students to work in groups on projects concerning any topic of their choice that relates to the history of Turkey. It is designed as an interactive course with an emphasis on research and the objective of investigating events, chronologically short historical periods, as well as historic representations. Students from all departments prepare and present final projects for examination by a committee, with 10 projects chosen to receive awards.Includes bibliographical references (page 14).Türkiye‘nin ilk kadın gökbilimcisi ve ilk kadın dekanı olan Prof. Dr. Nüzhet Gökdoğan, Cumhuriyet’in ilk yıllarında eğitim reformu kapsamında yurt dışına gönderilmiş ve ülkesine döndükten sonra bilime ve bilimin ülkemizdeki gelişimine katkı sağlamış bilim insanlarındandır. Fransa’da eğitim gördükten sonra Türkiye’de astronomi çalışmaları yapan Nüzhet Gökdoğan, hem astronomi araştırmalarında hem de akademide bir öncü olarak ülkemizin bilim ve akademi tarihinde önemli bir yer tutmaktadır. Bu araştırmada Nüzhet Gökdoğan’ın kişisel ve akademik hayatı ile birlikte ülkemizde astronomiye ve akademiye yaptığı katkılar, en yakınları ile yapılan röportajlar ve kapsamlı araştırmalar ışığında sunulmaya çalışılmıştır. Nüzhet Gökdoğan’ın bilimsel çalışmalarının yanı sıra öğrenci ilişkileri ile bir kadın olarak kişisel ve akademik hayatı da göz önünde bulundurularak, kendisinin Türkiye’deki astronomi biliminin ilerlemesine çok büyük bir katkısının olduğu ve örnek bir kadın akademisyen ve aile ferdi olduğu vurgulanmıştır. Nüzhet Gökdoğan'ın hayatının incelenmesi Cumhuriyet’in kurulmasının ardından bilimin ve akademinin ne çabalarla ilerletildiğinin anlaşılması açısından da önem taşımaktadır.The first female astronomer and the first female faculty dean of Turkey, Prof. Dr. Nüzhet Gökdoğan is one of the scientists who were sent abroad under the reform of education and contributed to science and the development of science in Turkey after they came back. Nüzhet Gökdoğan who started astronomy studies after she studied in France, holds an important place in the scientific and academic history of Turkey by being a pioneer in the astronomical studies and academic studies in general. In this research, Nüzhet Gökdoğan’s contributions to academy and astronomy is represented along with her academic and personal life in light of comprehensive research and the interviews done with the ones closest to her. It is emphasized that Nüzhet Gökdoğan has a great contribution to the advancement of astronomy in Turkey and is a model female academician and family member considering her academic life, scientific studies and relations with her students.
