It is designed to encourage students to work in groups on projects concerning any topic of their choice that relates to the history of Turkey. It is designed as an interactive course with an emphasis on research and the objective of investigating events, chronologically short historical periods, as well as historic representations. Students from all departments prepare and present final projects for examination by a committee, with 10 projects chosen to receive awards.Includes bibliographical references (pages 36-37).Ali Coşkun Kırca, 27 Mart 1927 tarihinde İstanbul’da doğdu. Şişli Terakki İlkokulu, Galatasaray Lisesi ve ardından İstanbul Üniversitesi Hukuk Fakültesi’nde öğrenim gören Coşkun Kırca, yüksek lisansını Paris Üniversitesi’nde tamamladı. NATO daimî temsilcisi ve Ankara Üniversitesi Siyasal Bilgiler Fakültesi’nde iktisat asistanlığı görevlerinde bulundu. Asistanlık görevinden istifa etmesinin akabinde önce Hürriyet Partisi’ne, daha sonra ise Cumhuriyet Halk Partisi’ne katıldı. 1960 askeri darbesinden sonra kurulan Temsilciler Meclisi’nde görev aldı ve 1961 Anayasası’nı hazırlayanlar arasında yer aldı. Cumhuriyet Halk Partisi ve Doğru Yol Partisi’nde İstanbul milletvekilliği yaptı. Türkiye’de eğitim dili Fransızca olan tek üniversite, Galatasaray Üniversitesi Kırca önderliğinde kuruldu. Türk siyasi sisteminin kusurlarını ve bu kusurlara getirdiği çözümleri ele aldığı Devlette Yozlaşmak adlı kitabını yayımladı. 51. Hükümetin Bakanlar Kurulu’nda Dışişleri Bakanı olarak görev yaptı. Forum, Akis ve Kim adlı dergilerde; Yeni Gün, Vatan, Yeni Vatan –emekliye ayrıldıktan sonra– Hürriyet, Milliyet ve Yeni Yüzyıl gazetelerinde yazılar yazdı. 24 Şubat 2005 tarihinde solunum ve kalp yetmezliği sebebiyle hayatını kaybetti.Ali Coşkun Kırca was born on March 27, 1927 in Istanbul. Coşkun Kırca, who studied at Şişli Terakki Primary School, Galatasaray High School and then Istanbul University Faculty of Law, completed his master's degree at University of Paris. He worked as NATO permanent representative and economics assistant at Ankara University Faculty of Political Sciences. Following his resignation from his assistant position, he first became the member of the Liberty Party (HP) and then the Republican People's Party (CHP). He served in the House of Representatives established after the 1960 Turkish coup d’état and was among those who established the Turkish Constitution of 1961. He was a member of parliament for Istanbul in the Republican People's Party (CHP) and the True Path Party (DYP). Galatasaray University, the only Francophone university in Turkey, was established under the leadership of Coşkun Kırca. He published his book, Devlette Yozlaşmayı Yenmek, in which he discussed the flaws of the Turkish political system and the solutions he brought to these. He served as the Minister of Foreign Affairs in the 51st Government's Council of Ministers. He wrote articles for magazines named Forum, Akis, Kim, and for newspapers named Yeni Gün, Vatan, Yeni Vatan. After his retirement, he wrote opinion columns for Hürriyet, Milliyet and Yeni Yüzyıl newspapers.
