It is designed to encourage students to work in groups on projects concerning any topic of their choice that relates to the history of Turkey. It is designed as an interactive course with an emphasis on research and the objective of investigating events, chronologically short historical periods, as well as historic representations. Students from all departments prepare and present final projects for examination by a committee, with 10 projects chosen to receive awards.Includes bibliographical references (pages 17-19).Türkiye sporu tarihinde nice başarılara imza atmış çok sayıda köklü takım barındırmaktadır. Bazı takımların şehirleri dolayısıyla diğer takımlardan daha ön planda olmuştur. Bu projenin amacı da tarih boyunca büyük işler yapmış fakat arka planda kalmış bir takım olan Altay'ı doğru bir şekilde tanıtmak oldu. Altay Spor Kulübü İzmir'in en eski spor kulüplerinden birisidir. 1914'te kurulan bu kulüp Türk kimliğini kaybetmemiş ve hem savaş yıllarında hem de sonrasında İzmir'e ve Türkiye'ye sportif anlamda katkı sağlamıştır. Bu araştırmayı yapmamızın önemi Altay Spor Kulübü'nün Türk sporuna, İzmir'in spor kültürüne ve Türk futbol endüstrisine yaptığı katkılarını anlaşılmasıdır. Bu araştırmayı yaparken Altay Tarih Araştırma Merkezi'nin kurucusu Erman Pektok'la röportaj gerçekleştirme fırsatımız oldu. Altay Spor Kulübü'nün tarihini, Futbolun Türkiye Tarihindeki Yeri ve Değişimi, Altay Spor Kulübü Tarihi ve Altay Spor Kulübü'nün Türkiye Futbol Endüstrisi'ndeki Yeri olmak üzere üç ana başlıkta inceledik. Araştırma süresince Altay Spor Kulübü'nün, kurulduğu tarihten beri İzmir'de spor kültürünün yaygınlaşmasını sağlayan bir unsur olmasının yanı sıra Türk sporunun yurt dışına tanıtılmasında öncülük görevini üstlendiğini de öğrendik. Araştırmanın sonucunda gördüğümüz üzere Altay Spor Kulübü, İzmir'in en köklü iki spor kuruluşlarından birisi olmanın yanı sıra Türkiye'deki futbol prensiplerinin oluşmasında en az Fenerbahçe, Galatasaray ve Beşiktaş gibi kulüpler kadar etki sahibi olmuştur.Turkey, throughout its sports history had witnessed many successful and essential clubs. Some of those teams due to the cities they represent has been more popular than other teams. This project aims to present Altay SK to the reader. Altay SK, due to being least successful in recent years has been one of the clubs that remains in the background of Turkish football history. Altay SK is one of the two oldest football teams in Izmir. Being founded in 1914, Altay SK never lost its identity and represented Izmir in WW1 era and later on. The importance of this research is that a better understanding in Altay's significance for Izmir's and Turkey's sports culture as well as club's contribution in Turkey's sports industry. While doing this research we had the chance to interview Erman Pektok, who is the founder of Altay History Research Center (ATAM). We have examined Altay's history in 3 main titles; Football's Significance and Changes in Turkish History, Altay SK's history and Altay's Importance in Turkish Football Industry. Throughout our research we have found out that Altay SK not only contributed to the progress in Izmir's sports culture, but also had played a huge role, being one of the pioneers in representing Turkish football in international fields.
