It is designed to encourage students to work in groups on projects concerning any topic of their choice that relates to the history of Turkey. It is designed as an interactive course with an emphasis on research and the objective of investigating events, chronologically short historical periods, as well as historic representations. Students from all departments prepare and present final projects for examination by a committee, with 10 projects chosen to receive awards.Includes bibliographical references (page 18).Bu çalışma, Türkiye ve Ankara’da süregelen sahaf kültürü çerçevesinde, Ankara’nın eski kitabevlerinden birisi olan Turhan Kitabevi’ni ve kitabevinin kurucusu Turhan Polat’ın hayatını, sahaflıktan kitapçılığa geçiş sürecini ve Turhan Polat’ın eğitim alanına katkılarını ortaya koymak için yazılmıştır. İlk olarak, kitabevinin kuruluş yılları olan 60’lı yıllar Türkiye’sinin sosyoekonomik altyapısı ve eğitim alanındaki durumu incelenmiştir. Aynı zamanda, bu dönemde bulunan kitabevi, yayınevi ve sahaf kültürü kısaca ele alınmıştır. Sonrasında kitabevinin kurucusu Turhan Polat’ın hayatı göz önünde bulundurularak Türkiye’ye eğitim alanındaki katkılarından bahsedilmiştir. Bir sonraki aşamada Türkiye’nin altyapısı göz önünde bulundurularak kitabevinin kuruluş yılındaki koşullar ele alınmıştır. Kitabevinin Yüksel Caddesi üzerinde bulunmasının önemi değerlendirilmiştir. Bunun yanında Turhan Polat’ın kitabevini kurarken yaşadığı zorluklar ve kitabevinin kuruluş sebepleri ele alınmıştır. Son olarak ise günümüzde kitabevinin Türkiye’ye ne amaçla hizmet ettiği ve Turhan Polat Eğitim Vakfı’na yer verilmiştir. Bunun yanı sıra günümüz dünyasında dijitalleşmenin yaygınlaşmasıyla birlikte Turhan Kitabevi başta olmak üzere birçok kitabevi üzerindeki etkileri ve yaşanan zorluklar incelenmiştir.This study was written to reveal Turhan Bookstore, one of the oldest bookstores in Ankara, and the life of Turhan Polat, the founder of the bookstore, the transition process from second-hand booksellers to booksellers, and Turhan Polat's contributions to the field of education, within the framework of the ongoing second-hand bookshop culture in Turkey and Ankara. Firstly, the socio-economic infrastructure and educational situation of Turkey in the 1960s, when the bookstore was founded, were examined. At the same time, the culture of bookstores, publishing houses and second-hand booksellers in this period are briefly discussed. Afterwards, considering the life of Turhan Polat, the founder of the bookstore, his contributions to Turkey in the field of education were mentioned. In the next stage, the conditions in the foundation year of the bookstore were discussed, taking the infrastructure of Turkey into account. The importance of having the bookstore on Yuksel Street has been evaluated. In addition, the difficulties experienced by Turhan Polat while establishing the bookstore and the reasons for the establishment of the bookstore are discussed. Finally, the purpose of the bookstore in Turkey today and its mission in the education sector are given.
