It is designed to encourage students to work in groups on projects concerning any topic of their choice that relates to the history of Turkey. It is designed as an interactive course with an emphasis on research and the objective of investigating events, chronologically short historical periods, as well as historic representations. Students from all departments prepare and present final projects for examination by a committee, with 10 projects chosen to receive awards.Includes bibliographical references (pages 25-28).İstanbul Atatürk Havalimanı, 1912 yılında Yeşilköy Havalimanı olarak kurulmuştur ve kapatıldığı tarih olan 2019 tarihine yılına hem Türkiye için sivil havacılığın merkezlerinden biri, hem de dünyadaki önemli aktarma merkezlerinden biri olmuş ve milyonlarca yolcuya ev sahipliği yapmıştır. Bu araştırmada İstanbul Atatürk Havalimanı’nın “Yeşilköy Havalimanı” olarak başlayan ve 2019’da kapatılmasıyla biten yolculuğu çeşitli akademik makaleler, gazete haberleri ve istatistikler ışığında incelenmiştir ve Türk tarihindeki önemi ele alınmıştır. 1988’de İstanbul Atatürk Havalimanı’nın dış hatlar terminali ihalesi alan TAV Havalimanları Holding’in (Tepe Akfen Ventures) kurucularından olan TAV İcra Kurulu Başkanı ve Yönetim Kurulu Üyesi olan Mustafa Sani Şener ile yapılan röportaj, çalışmada önemli bir rol oynayıp Atatürk Havalimanı’nın bilinmeyen taraflarını ve Sani Şener’in Türkiye’deki Havalimanı İşletmeciliği sektörüne katkılarını gözler önüne sermiştir.Istanbul Atatürk Airport was established in 1912 as “Yeşilköy Airport”; and until 2019, the year it was shut down, it served both as one of the main centers of civil aviation in Turkey and one of the most important transit centers in the world. The airport had also served millions of passengers by the time it was shut down. In this study, the journey of İstanbul Atatürk Airport (which has started with its name being “Yeşilköy Airport”) until it was shut down in 2019, has been narrated in the light of various academic articles, news and statistics; and its importance in Turkish history has been assessed.
