It is designed to encourage students to work in groups on projects concerning any topic of their choice that relates to the history of Turkey. It is designed as an interactive course with an emphasis on research and the objective of investigating events, chronologically short historical periods, as well as historic representations. Students from all departments prepare and present final projects for examination by a committee, with 10 projects chosen to receive awards.Türkiye’de “Kur’an Müslümanlığı” adı altında modern İslam düşüncesi ve teolojisine önemli katkılar sağlamış olan akademisyen, yazar ve medya şahsiyeti olan Yaşar Nuri Öztürk, kariyeri boyunca kitaplarında değindiği argümanlarıyla veya katıldığı televizyon programlarında İslami metinlerin tarihsel ve kültürel yorumlarından arındırılması ve Kur’an’a objektif bir bakış açısı sunulması gerektiğine değinen, Türkiye’de “Kur’an Müslümanlığı” çerçevesinde şekillenen ideolojiye katkıda bulunmuş önemli bir şahsiyettir. Yenilikçi ve gelenekçi yorumlar dahilinde gerçekleşen pratik uygulamaları eleştirdiği ve süregelen İslam dünyasındaki fikirleri sorgulanabilir bulduğu için beraberinde gelen tartışmaların merkezi olmuştur.Yaşar Nuri Öztürk, an academic, writer and media personality who has made important contributions to modern Islamic thought and theology in Turkey under the name of “Qur'anic Islam”, is an important figure who has contributed to the ideology shaped within the framework of “Qur'anic Islam” in Turkey, referring to the need to purify Islamic texts from historical and cultural interpretations and present an objective point of view to the Qur'an with the arguments he has addressed in his books or on the television programs he has participated in throughout his career.
