It is designed to encourage students to work in groups on projects concerning any topic of their choice that relates to the history of Turkey. It is designed as an interactive course with an emphasis on research and the objective of investigating events, chronologically short historical periods, as well as historic representations. Festival 1994 yılında İstanbul Caz Festivali’nin oluşması ile beraber İstanbul Müzik Festivali adını almış ve günümüze kadar bu şekilde gelmiştir. Festivalin başladığı günden bu güne düzenlenen etkinlikler ve konserler ile Türk halkı uluslararası sanatçılarla buluşturulmuş ve Türk sanatçıların uluslararası alanda bilinirliği artırılmıştır.İstanbul Music Festival started off as the İstanbul Festival in 1973 which is İstanbul Culture and Art Association’s first event. The first İstanbul Festival was organized between 21 June - 15 June and it consisted mostly of classical music. The festival allowed viewers to watch artists from all around the world. In 1994, with the separation of İstanbul Jazz Festival, the name of the festival changed to İstanbul Music Festival and it has not been changed to date.
