It is designed to encourage students to work in groups on projects concerning any topic of their choice that relates to the history of Turkey. It is designed as an interactive course with an emphasis on research and the objective of investigating events, chronologically short historical periods, as well as historic representations. Tarih boyunca büyük bir hızla gelişen bu dal, kendi içerisinde de dallara ayrılmaktadır ve nöroşirurji ya da beyin cerrahisi, bu dalların en yenilerinden ve en çok tecrübe gerektirenlerindendir. Uluslararası alanda son yüzyıl içerisinde ortaya çıkan nöroşirürji ile Türkiye, 1950’li yıllarda tanışmıştır. ülkede ilk kez GATA’da kurulan beyin cerrahisi bölümü ilk yıllarında son derece az sayıda cerraha ve teknolojik imkana sahiptir. Hamit Ziya Gökalp ise ilk Türk beyin cerrahlarından birisidir. Kendisi beyin cerrahı olmaya karar verdikten sonra Amerika’ya gidip hem asistanlık yaparak hem de eğitim görerek bu alanda tecrübe ve bilgi sahibi olmuş, ardından Türkiye’ye dönerek bilgilerini artık bağımsız bir klinik haline gelen GATA Beyin Cerrahisi Kliniği’nde meslektaşlarıyla paylaşmıştır. Gerçekleştirdiği ameliyatlar ve gerek GATA’ya gerek Ankara üniversitesi Tıp Fakültesi’ne gerekse Ufuk üniversitesi Beyin Cerrahisi bölümüne sağladığı yardımlarla Dr. Gökalp yüzyılın en önemli beyin cerrahlarından birisi olarak anılmaya başlanmıştır. Günümüzde hala kendi adını taşıyan bir ödül bilime katkı sağlayan insanlara verilmektedir. Hamit Ziya Gökalp ve Gazi Yaşargil gibi öncü isimler sayesinde Türkiye’de nöroşirürji, kısa bir süre içerisinde son derece büyük bir hızla gelişmiştir ve yirmi yıl önce teşhis koyma sıkıntıları çeken Türkiye, 2007 yılında beyin cerrahisi araştırmalarında sekizinci sıraya yerleşmiştir.Surgical is one of the oldest branches of the medicine. Throughout history, it developped dramatically and fastly. Surgeon itself has its own branches and neurosurgery is one of the newest and hardest of them. Internationally, neurosurgery became a branch in the last century but it was in 1950s that Turkey finally learned about it. The first departement of neurosurgery in Turkey was built in GATA and it had a very little amount of surgeons and equipments. Hamit Ziya Gökalp is one of the first Turk neurosurgeons. After he decided that he’d become a brain surgeon, he went to the USA in order to learn and to gain experience about neurosurgery by becoming an assistant and by studying. Then, he returned to GATA, which was by that time an independent neurosurgery clinic. There, he shared his experiences with his collegues. Thanks to the surgeries he performed and the contributions he made to GATA, to the medicine department of Ankara üniversitesi and to the neurosurgery department of Ufuk üniversitesi, he was declared as one of the most important neurosurgeons of the century. At the present time, a reward carrying his name is given annually to those that contribute to the science.
