It is designed to encourage students to work in groups on projects concerning any topic of their choice that relates to the history of Turkey. It is designed as an interactive course with an emphasis on research and the objective of investigating events, chronologically short historical periods, as well as historic representations. Students from all departments prepare and present final projects for examination by a committee, with 10 projects chosen to receive awards.Includes bibliographical references (pages 17-19).Veli Ballı, 1970'li yıllarda uluslararası maraton yarışmalarında elde ettiği derecelerle ünlenmiş Türk maraton koşucusu ve milli atlettir. 1949 yılında Muş'un Varto ilçesinde doğmuş; ilk ve orta öğrenimini memleketinde tamamlamıştır. 1966'da Varto Depremi'nden sonra devlet tarafından Aydın'a gönderilmiş ve lise öğrenimine burada başlamış; ancak Sivas'ta devam etmiştir. Ballı Sivas Demirspor bünyesinde atletizm kariyerine başlamış, 1970 yılında milli takıma seçilmiş, 1976 yılında Türkiye'de "Yılın Sporcusu" ünvanını almıştır. Uluslararası dereceleri arasında 1976 Lahor Maratonu birinciliği, 1977 Balkan Atletizm Şampiyonluğu ve 1977 Boston Maratonu ikinciliği bulunmaktadır. Günümüzde Ankara'da ailesiyle birlikte yaşamaktadır.Veli Ballı is a Turkish national athlete and long-distance runner who became famous for his achievements in international marathon competitions in the 1970s. He was born in 1949 in Varto district of Muş and he received his primary education at schools in his town. After the 1966 Varto Earthquake he was sent to Aydın and he started high school. He continued his education in Sivas. His athletic career started at Sivas Demirspor. Later, at 1970 he was selected to the national team, and at 1976, he was chosen as the Athlete of the Year in Turkey. His international accomplishments include winning the Lahor Marathon in 1976 as well as the Balkan Athletics Championships in 1977, and finishing second at the 1977 Boston Marathon.
