It is designed to encourage students to work in groups on projects concerning any topic of their choice that relates to the history of Turkey. It is designed as an interactive course with an emphasis on research and the objective of investigating events, chronologically short historical periods, as well as historic representations. Students from all departments prepare and present final projects for examination by a committee, with 10 projects chosen to receive awards.Includes bibliographical references (pages 27-29).Denize kıyısı olan ülkelerin savunması, denizlerde başlar ve bunu temin edecek güç donanmadır. Cumhuriyet'in erken dönemlerinde Almanlar ile ortak inşa edilen gemiler donanmanın temel taşlarını oluşturmaya başladı. II. Dünya Savaşı ve sonrasında Amerikan hegemonyası ile değişen sistem ve donanma yapısı Türkiye Cumhuriyeti'nin denizdeki gücünü arttırdı. Amerika ile yakınlaşan Türkiye, NATO'ya üye olduktan sonra donanmasını geliştirmek için NATO ile ortak çalışmalar yürüttü. Fakat Kıbrıs sorunu sebebiyle Amerika ile ilişkilerin gerilmesi sonucu Türk Donanması kendi yapılanmasını ve milli stratejik tedbirler almaya karar verdi. Böylelikle bağımsız bir Cumhuriyet Donanması ortaya çıktı. Cumhuriyet Donanması Türkiye Cumhuriyeti karasularında kurulduğu tarihten itibaren önemli görevler üstlendi. 1974 yılındaki Kıbrıs Barış Harekâtı bunlardan biridir. Bu görevi diğerlerinden farklı kılan etmenler ise hazırlık sürecinde Amerika Birleşik Devletleri'nin Türkiye'ye yaptığı silah yardımlarını azaltması ve harekât sonrasında Türkiye'ye ambargo uygulamasıydı. Bu uygulamalar, donanmanın milli temellere dayanması gerekliliğini Türk hükümetine açık bir şekilde gösterdi. Bu doğrultuda 1960'lı yıllarda başlatılan çalışmalar, 1975 yılında uygulanan silah ambargosunun etkisinde kurulan firmaların da katkısıyla özellikle 2000'li yıllarda hem güçlü hem de milli bir donanmanın oluşmasını sağladı.Defense of the seashore countries begins in seas and it is related with the power of its navy. In the early years of the Turkish Republic, the ships built jointly with the German Republic began to form the cornerstones of the navy. American hegemony after World War 2 and changing structure of the system and navy increased the power of the Turkish Republic over the seas. After converging with the United States and being a member of NATO, Turkey has conducted joint work with NATO in order to enhance its navy. However, as a result of the tension between US due to Cyprus problem, Turkish Navy decided to constitute its own structure and take national strategic measures. Thus, independent Turkish Republic Navy has emerged. From the date of establishment of the Turkish Republic Navy, it has undertaken significant duties in order to protect the homeland in the territorial waters of the Republic of Turkey. For instance, Turkish Invasion of Cyprus in 1974 is one of them which is different in terms of the approach of America to the event. During the preparation process of this invasion, United States of America reduced the arms aid and the Republic of Turkey to embargo after the operation. Accordingly, these implementations clearly showed the necessity of the navy to be based on national foundations to the Turkish government.
